Pretty Women Have Stayed At The Beverly Wilshire

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Since it was built in 1929, The Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel has attracted rich and famous guests from around the world. To the general public the hotel is most famous for being used in the 1990 movie Pretty Woman. They have disappointed thousands of people by turning down requests from around the world who would like to stay in the same suite that Julia Roberts and Richard Gere had in the movie because it does not exist, it was filmed at the Walt Disney studio.

Julia Robert’s character in the film was not the only pretty woman who stayed there. In the 60’s the hotel became a swinging hangout for Warren Beatty and Jack Nicholson, with parades of women going in and out of their rooms. A little old lady who stayed beneath Beatty constantly banged her ceiling with her broom, to try and get him and his lady friends to stop making so much noise.

Not everyone was having fun in the hotel. Michael Caine spent his honeymoon there with his beautiful wife Shakira. Caine was and is a favorite of the staff. In honor of Shakira they decided to give them the authentic Indian honeymoon suite. In India, the honeymoon beds hang from the ceiling with bells hanging from the bottom. The neighbors like to hear the bells go off for the happy couple, but in this case Shakira was already pregnant and Caine was jetlagged. All they wanted was to get some sleep but they couldn’t do it because of the blankety blank bells! The English actor ended up ordering four hamburgers from room service and stuffed the buns into the bells so that they could get through the night!

Notes some one of the most important things to learn and digest when it comes to learning music. The foundation of every tune is the note. This is also what makes the music lesson quite difficult to learn. It is because music is another language. There are lots of music notes to memorize. However, there are some techniques to better understand and not just to memorize the notes then eventually digest all of them. The first technique is to know the first twelve (12) major notes. Enumerated above are the twelve major notes. Most of us have encountered the do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti notes in the early stage of our education. Whether we liked it or not, music has always been a part of the academe. The alphabet notes C, D, E, F, G, A, B are also used along with the do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti notes. However, most people especially those who are not totally musically inclined are more familiar with the latter.

Also enumerated above are the 12 major chords. These are the most important chords to be first learned in learning how to play the piano. These piano chords correspond to those chords used in playing the guitar. So it is possible for you to play your favorite songs in both the guitar and the piano.

Just like in learning how to play the guitar, all you need is to memorize the chords and the proper position of your fingers. There are 12 major chords enumerated above along with the keys that are to be pressed to form each chord. There are actually many more chords and they are quite difficult to memorize and retain at once. Aside from being the major chords, these 12 are the easiest to memorize and remember.

All the other chords may sound so complicated in names but in reality, they are just repetitions or variations of the major chords. The first and foremost thing to remember is the middle C and its location because it is where the other notes are based. The variations of chords are the minor chords, the dominant seventh, augmented fifth, the diminished seventh, minor seventh, dominant ninth, major sixth, major seventh, minor sixth, dominant seventh with augmented fifth, dominant seventh with lowered fifth. Each major chord has these twelve more variations. Notice that the 12 major chords take only three fingers to form. The other variations can include four and even five fingers but still play around the major chord.

Some song lyrics have major or minor chords only. In practicing, especially for beginners, it is better to start with songs with simple chords first. The technique is to memorize the twelve major notes and then the twelve major chords and then get acquainted with the variations. In no time, you can play any songs and the “used-to-be-complicated” chords wouldn’t appear complicated anymore.

How To Audition - Am I Talented Enough To Get Cast

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Am I Talented Enough?

First off if you’re really asking this question then you are already failing your audition. Let’s return to our Mantra from the first lesson in The Ultimate Audition Guide Win The Part.

“You deserve to get the part so believe in yourself – because if you don’t they won’t.”

Talent is not measurable on a fixed scale of 1 to 100. ‘Talent’ is something that is ‘relative’ in every audition and every production. What I mean by that is this: Your talent is only measured against the talent of the other people who are involved, not the whole world. Of course if you were to put the whole world in one audition then you’d fall somewhere from top to bottom but in reality you only have to worry about your immediate competition. Do you have what it takes to beat the others in the room? And remember – “You deserve the part…..”

Imagine though, for sake of argument that everyone in your audition is equally ‘talented’ and by that I mean their ‘performance abilities’ are all on a par. How does a director choose between them now? Simple, by factoring in the physical look he wants for his show and adding on the performer’s “Sparkle Rating” mentioned earlier.

Think of your audition like an exam. In an acting audition, for example, the director may award 60% of your marks based on your physical skills (acting, singing, dancing) but the other 40% for the way you deliver yourself in the audition – your ‘Sparkle Factor’.

Some people approach auditions with the arrogant attitude that they are the ‘best’, and because they ‘have the most talent’ they will get the part but you can easily beat these people to a part.

Their ‘ability’ might earn them a score of 5/6 but they are more likely to overlook the value of the ‘Sparkle Factor’ and only score 1/4 from the director there. In total they score 6/10 on their audition.

You enter the audition and only score a 3/6 on ‘ability’ but with the finely polished ‘Sparkle’ skills that you have practiced from this course you can ace the audition with a total 7/10 by scoring 4/4 on ‘Sparkle’ and getting the part.

You would be surprised how many potential lead actors and actresses I have seen lose a part they were capable of playing to another actor simply because they approached the audition with the wrong attitude.

Remember - even if you don’t think you’re the best in the world at what you do that doesn’t matter:

RULE #2 “Winning the Part is about learning to score better than the competition. And there is much you can do to improve you score regardless of ability.”

(If you do already think you are the best in the world BEWARE – it’s a long fall from up there! For the rest of us who know we’re not perfect you can learn how to trounce the competition in the ‘Sparkle’ stakes as discussed in detail in The Ultimate Audition Guide.

Until next time - Best of luck in your auditions,

In the Valley of the Beast [Armageddon]; a Poem Reedited

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Here is a poem on war, perhaps the last battle of WWIII; Dennis puts it into a biblical form. It is much like what is happening today, and this poem should live on as a reminder of war to be and its developing process. Rosa

Valley of the Beast
[Armageddon]

They were assembled for the feast, the feast of victory, in the Valley of the Beast, the Valley of Armageddon!

The vaults of Hell now, were opened, to assault the nations of the earth: hence, Hell spoke:

‘Cursed be to those who do not heed these words: join us in the valley of the beast, for war!’

And so the world sat waiting on war, with blood soaked knees, in the Valley of Beast. And they came from far and near: from bog, valley and woodlands from the north, east; and far west—brother against brother (to fight for the Beast, in the Valley of Armageddon).

They came from Hell’s abyss, commanded by none other than, Agaliarept, Lucifer’s henchman; with hissing, clutching at the feet of nations, until they carried: “War, war, war…!” And there they stood with flaming swords, and many died caked with blood up to their thighs, as the fury roared—two billion died; and thus, the prince of darkness, was shackled for a season, but he will be back: by and by.

Note: written at he Café “Tarata” Lima Peru, 5/1/2006 [afternoon, during lunch).

Discover How to Entertain on a Budget - Part I

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Part I

To most people these two words, entertain and budget, are miles apart. But they don’t have to be. Whether you are a young adult who wants to impress your friends, a new business owner looking to impress your clients, or a mom or dad who simply wants to take a break from the “office” to entertain a few friends you will find these tips useful.

No matter whom you are or what your background, we all enjoy getting together with family and/or friends. However, when money is a little tight you don’t have to opt out of host or hostessing if you utilize some sensible alternatives.

Your first task should be to decide the theme for your event. This will help you to create your guest list as well as help you see what pre-party elements you can bypass and what areas you will want to make extra special.

If you are planning your wedding festivities you will want to focus on the comfort and enjoyment of your guests. For this type of event you could save a ton of cash that could be used for a more practical purchase like your honeymoon or your first home purchase by narrowing your guest list. After all is said and done only you and your immediate family and very best friend will remember your party. Most of your guests will remember the wedding. So have a larger wedding if you must, but limit the wedding party to save major dollars.

For most of us we simply want to entertain a few friends. Be sure to supply a comfortable amount of room for your guests. If yours is a dinner party you will want to ensure you have enough chairs for your entire guest list. If it is a cocktail party you can and should opt for “milling”; room rather than so many chairs.

Another consideration is where you have your event. This can also either be costly or not. Here is a list of some inexpensive alternatives.

Standup Comedians Its Not Just Jokes

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Some people might say you are witty. When making a joke your friends seem to laugh. It seems it is something you take pleasure in doing and when people chuckle sometimes it is the ultimate prize. You believe you value comedy, and you should go to the next stage by becoming a professional comedian.

But, being a stand-up comic and comedian is a lot dissimilar than retelling a common joke and waiting for your friends to giggle. With comedy, you should be cognizant about the meeting, become knowledgeable about the stage, and write jokes that express a universal charm.

While being a comedian can be tough, on the contrary sometimes it is also worthwile. Here is some recommendations on what you should know to turn into a comedian.

Build up your personality. Think about all the popular comedians out there. Each lucrative comedian has something really critical about them. Chris Rock. Dave Chapelle. Adam Sandler. Dennis Miller. After a while you hear the names and, you can mindlessly imagine what they are, what they say, and exactly how and why you giggle.

Sometimes it is exaclty what you need to do. As a trainee, it might be a while before you find your personality. Test it in front of the public. Ask for reviews wherever possible. Refine and tweak your stage presence until you’re content with the product.

There are quite a lot of diverse kinds of comedy. Knowing what they are should help you train fittingly. Do you prefer improv comedy, standup, or would you rather emotionalize in a comedy movie or a sitcom? Here are plenty of other options, too. Once you understand what style of comedy you would like to do, you can set objectives and amplify a plan that should help you achieve them.

Attend comedy classes. You will figure out and learn, standup or any extra forms of comedy don’t come as expected. Sure, you can express the physical gift, skill of timing, etc. But, you also need help realizing the dissimilar styles of comedy and how to perfect and draw on them to your advantage.

When you go and take a comedy session, you can improve yourself and get some help from a master comedian. After learning everything the educational and the learning curve has been reduced, you will need to work together with fellow comedians and get reactions.

Put in writing and prepare your act in front of family. Attend standup amateur nights. Essentially, get as much familiarity as possible so youcan get comfortable in front of people. Practice in front of the mirror. By timing your act you can gage the amount of time you will need. Modify and correct your jokes until you get the entire act perfected. Once you complete all of this, you are content to start working in a club for payment.

Enter competitions. Entering competitions is a fantastic way of getting familiarity and to practice your routines in front of audience. When it hits it doesn′t matter if you fancy standup or improv or something other, there are comedy competitions for it. You can join amateur internet talent shows. Yes alot of these may also enforce a prize. The benefit to this, is that agents may be lurking in the public looking to spot new talent.

Greek Mythology Hercules: The Mortal Who Became A God

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

When Hercules was born to Alcmene, she named him Herakles. But in Roman, Herakles is pronounced Hercules, which is the name we use for Hercules to this day. Hercules in Greek mythology is a great figure of valor and muscle strength. Hercules bravery earned him a place among the gods. After he left the mortal world, he found a position on Mount Olympus, the gods’ dwelling place.

Zeus, the King of the gods was an unfaithful husband. He had a weakness for worldly pleasures. He fell in love with Alcmene, the wife of Amphitryon. In a short time, Alcmene conceived Hercules. This angered Hera and she tried to kill Hercules. Hercules survived his first fatal assault with a miracle.

When Hercules reached adulthood he became a famous warrior. He also fell in love with a beautiful woman called Megara. Megara became the mother of Hercules′ children and together they made a happy family. However, things were to be different. Hera took a vow to irritate Hercules during his lifetime. She tricked Hercules into a wild rage. In his rage, the mortal god Hercules killed his family. This was exactly what Hera wanted!

When Hercules returned to his normal state of mind, he saw things were beyond remedy. He prayed to Apollo to get rid of his crime. Apollo was the sun god who could read into the future. We find in Greek Mythology that Hercules requested his advice. Apollo assigned him ten important tasks (later it was turned to twelve) as the way of purifying his soul.

The Delphic oracle sent him to Tiryns where the king Eurystheus ruled. Hercules was expected to serve him as laborer for twelve years of his life. However, the difficult service was not fruitless. Apollo promised him immortality. He was to become a god. However, the great Hercules of greek mythology had one problem, Hera. She actually kept her promise to make Hercules′ life as wretched as she could. Nevertheless, with the assistance of Hermes and Athena, Hercules pulled off his term of twelve years with excellence. In addition, he became the greatest mortal on the earth to become a god.

Hercules In Greek Mythology – What Made Him So Special?
The honorable penance of Hercules and his eventual success is what makes him so special. His success brought him immortality, which would have been unthinkable for ordinary mortals. Hercules′ first task was to peel off the skin of the horrifying Nemean Lion after capturing one. His next task was to kill The Lernean Hydra. The Lernean Hydra was a serpent with nine heads, which never gave peace to the lives of those around it. The third task for him was to bring a Hind (a sacred red deer) from Ceryneia to the king. The deer was the pet of Diana, the Moon goddess.

The fourth task for Hercules was to bring a live Erymanthian Boar. It was very dangerous to men and animals living around the mountain Erymanthus. Then Hercules was asked to clean up King Augeas’ stables in one day. Are you thinking what is so great about it? King Augeas had an awesome amount of cattle of cows, bulls, goats, sheep and horses. Hercules proposed to King Augeas that he would clean the stable only if he rewarded Hercules with a tenth of his cattle.

After this success, Eurystheus was planning to make something tougher for Hercules. He commanded Hercules to force out an enormous flock of birds, which assembled at a lake near the town of Stymphalos. Goddess Athena helped him with a pair of bronze krotala, an item similiar to castanets. The Cretan Bull was an easy task for Hercules. Hercules wrestled the bull, and then delivered it back to King Eurystheus.

The eighth task was to bring the Man-Eating Horses of Diomedes. It was followed by the battle against the Amazonian female army to get the belt of Hippolyte, the queen. The tenth labor was an awesome one. Hercules had to go around the world, to bring the cattle of the Monster Geryon. It had three heads and three sets of legs all attached at the waist.

The tricky assignment was the eleventh one. Eurystheus asked Hercules to get the Apples of the Hesperides. These were the golden apples gifted by Hera to Zeus. These apples were strictly guarded by a hundred-headed dragon, named Ladon, and also by Hesperides, daughters of Atlas. The other obstacle was that Hercules had no idea where these apples of Hesperides were located. Eventually, Hercules found the location from Nereus whom he seized until Nereus gave him the location of the apples of Hesperides.

Then Hercules found out thru Prometheus, whom Hercules had helped, that he would have to have Atlas retrieve the apples. Hercules agreed to hold the sky and the earth while Atlas retrieved the apples. When Atlas returned with the apples, he told Hercules that if he would hold the sky and earth for the rest of time, that he would take them to Eurystheus himself. But Hercules fooled Atlas by asking him to hold the earth until he padded his shoulders. Atlas took Hercules place holding the earth, and Hercules picked up the apples and ran.

After making the great Hercules do all sorts of unbelievable errands, Eurystheus made sure that he did not succeed the last time. So, he ordered Hercules to abduct Cerberus, the underworld beast. Did you ever hear a living man visiting the Hades? However, Greek mythology tells us Hercules was no ordinary man. He was a hero.

He eventually did complete all the tasks, purified his soul and rescued the princess of Troy from a ravenous sea-monster. He also facilitated Zeus to beat the Giants in a great battle for the control of Olympus. He married again, to the charming Deianira. She presented him a cloak, which was coated with what she mistakenly thought to be a magic love potion. She was told that the balm would make the person love her forever.

Ironically, it was poison, which burned Hercules skin. Hercules, not being able to endure the pain asked his friends to kindle a fire. Then Hercules placed himself on the fire to be burned up alive. But the gods looked down, and Zeus thought that Hercules had suffered enough. So he asked Hera to end her anger toward Hercules, which she did. Then Hercules was brought to Olympus in Athena’s chariot by Zeus′ request.

This Greek mortal Hercules is undoubtedly the greatest hero of Greek Mythology. Hercules is still considered to be the perfect mythical character.

Poker Betting

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Have you ever wondered what poker betting is all about, and how to improve your betting strategies so that you can play a better game? Many people don’t realize that the betting in poker is just as much a part of the strategy of the game as how you play your cards. Poker betting is a skill that is learned over time, or by watching or listening to people who really know what they are doing when it comes to poker.

One thing that most of the poker pros know about poker betting is that how you bet can give away what kind of hand you have if you are not careful. If you draw four of a kind, for example, and you bet too much too soon, you may end up scaring the other players out of the game, which results in you not reaping as big a reward as you would like. Professional players know that if you have a good poker hand, it is better to bet conservatively at first to keep other players in the game, and then slowly raise the stakes when it looks like other players are bluffing, or think that they have a winning hand.

When you engage in poker betting, you have to try to read the other players before you put your money in, and bet accordingly. If you are brave enough to try to bluff in a game, you want your poker betting to probably be a little less than conservative at the start, but not so over-the-top that others may suspect you of bluffing.
