Charlie’s Angels (Season 2) DVD Review

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Long before Magnum, PI put Tom Selleck on the map, Charlie’s Angels owned the world of TV private eyes. Nominated for 4 Emmys and 7 Golden Globes, including 2 for Best TV Series - Drama, Charlie’s Angels was a truly rare overnight sensation. The forerunner to modern day shows such as La Femme Nikita and Alias, creators Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts capped off long careers as showbiz writers by penning the unforgettable story of three sexy and vivacious private investigators. Executive producer Aaron Spelling (linked to innumerable hit shows such as Beverly Hills 90210, The Love Boat, Melrose Place, Dynasty, 7th Heaven, and Charmed among others) played a prominent role in the pop culture explosion of this series which witnessed the immediate mass marketing of Charlie’s Angels trading cards, posters, lunchboxes, and endless other memorabilia - including a full-length feature film of the same name two decades later (2000). Through the duration of the series (five seasons), the cast changed continuously as Charlie’s angels became media stars in their own right and left to pursue various opportunities in modeling, film, and TV…

The Charlie′s Angels (Season 2) DVD features a number of action-packed episodes including the season premiere “Angels in Paradise″ in which the angels are at first apprehensive about the arrival of a new angel in Jill’s absence (she left the agency to become a racecar driver), but all their fears are assuaged when her replacement turns out to be Jill’s younger sister Kris. Their first assignment - to rescue a kidnapped Charlie! To do so, they must travel to Hawaii where an international smuggler offers the angels Charlie′s release in exchange for their aid in breaking her husband out of prison… Other notable episodes from Season 2 include “Circus of Terror” in which (similar to The A-Team) the angels are called in to help out a ringmaster who has been plagued by a number of attempts to ruin his circus, and “Game, Set, Death″ in which Kris enters herself in a tennis tournament in order to get to the bottom of a string a mysterious murders…

Why 1.5 Megapixels is Enough

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Dots Per Inch is a useful measure of relative resolution. But if you don’t know the image size in inches or some other measure of size, then the amount of dots per inch doesn’t mean much. That’s why DPI is used in conjunction with scanner Specifications, because you know that the size is going to be 3.8 by 1.7 inches!

Different resolutions are used for different purposes. 72 or 75 DPI for screen viewing; 250 for digital photography and 300 dpi for printing. See how this is a nice comparison, yes, you can get away with 50 less pixels per inch in your photographs than would be required for A4 printing, this is because of the physical size of the photo!rnrnDots Per Inch specifies how much information is resolved in a picture, whereas the number of megapixels is usually used to describe the total output size (in pixels) of an image.

Example: I want to reproduce the standard photograph size. This would be 6 by 4 inches. Digital photography requires a minimum of only about 250dpi, So: 6 * 250 = 1500 and 4 * 250 = 1000, so you need an image sized about 1500 * 1000 pixels (about 1.5 megapixels). Thus you can get a perfectly good standard print from a 1.5 megapixel camera! rnrnIf you take a photo twice, one at 5 and the other at 1.5 megapixels, than ask your self which one looks “better”? They will both look reasonable because your computer generates colours such that the image looks better than it really is if you were to print both as a 6 by 4 image, they will look identical, because your printer can’t generate more than 300 dpi so the “better” image is effectively reduced in quality anyway. This example demonstrates how it is possible to literally waste memory, ie for everyday use the additional memory required for the other 4 megapixcels gives you no real benefit!

This is quite good because a 36 Megabyte media card can store 50 to 65 images at 1.3 megapixcels but only 8 to 10 at 5 megapixcels, so unless you are planning on getting your images printed larger than 6 by 4 there’s no real advantage to the full 5 megapixcels.

Now we have established that a 1.5 megapixel camera will produce a 6 by 4 inch standard photograph, that is, it will generate a resolution such that each pixel is simply reproduced “as is″, we come to the more interesting issue of enlargement.

If you wanted to print your 6 by 4 inch image as a 10 by 8 photo (which would normally need the full 5 megapixels), there would not be a sufficient number of pixels for the additional surface area, so we now need to scale up the existing pixels by “resampling” the existing pixels, a process which estimates how the “missing” pixels should appear, and fills them with the appropriate “colour”.

Internet Affiliate Marketing

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

One of the most rapidly growing programs on the internet is that of internet affiliate marketing. The concept is simple. Companies on the internet have products or services to sell and they are willing to affiliate with other people who will help them market what they have. With internet affiliate marketing everyone wins. Online casinos and poker rooms are good examples of companies that use internet affiliate marketing. These sites allow people to affiliate with them at no charge and then do everything they can to help them get started.

For example they provide banner ads to affiliates to place on their websites. These ads are eye catching attention getters that encourage people to click on the link and go to the casino or poker room website. When that person registers with the casino the affiliate who had the banner ad on their website gets credit for a referral. Then if the referral starts gambling the affiliate earns a commission. The affiliate and the casino have become internet affiliate marketing partners.

The casino or poker room will also provide its internet affiliate marketing partners with text ads to be placed in e-mails sent out by the affiliate. The partnership can continue indefinitely and the affiliate can continue to earn regularly paid commissions. The affiliate also receives the necessary tools to keep track of referrals. If this is something that appeals to you then you should join the thousands of people who have become affiliates and are earning extra cash with very little effort and no financial risk.

Games in Music Lessons and Their Benefits

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

How my music school grew from 6 to over 200 students in under two years.

When my husband and I started our music school - everyone around us thought it couldn’t be done. It had not been done in our home town much and no one we knew had ever quit their day job as a teacher to go and run their own music school business. we weighed up the pros and cons of it all and decided after it all that it was a challenge that we wanted to pursue. So we went ahead and before we knew it we leased a commercial premise, found ourselves a program and we were on our first opening day ready a raring to go!

Our first term was tough- we enrolled thirty students and half of them quit within a few weeks. We couldn’t work it out - here we were fully established, credible teachers and it wasn’t working. What were we doing wrong?

We could no longer think the same as we previously did in working in schools and operate the same teaching methods because they were not working. Something we were doing was not right and we had to find out what it was quickly.

We talked to our six families that we had on board and any families which came through our doors. We asked them all the one simple question:

“What is it that you would like to get out of have music lessons for your child?”

With this question we found out some very important information. Because our parents were doing this in their free time with their children, it had to be FUN. A parent didn’t want to pay for lessons if it was all too hard or if their child didn’t enjoy it and they definitely didn’t want to bring their children because it was good for them. The other observation we made was that if a parent enjoyed lessons, then their child would as well. The parent didn’t even have to be in the room, but when a parent asked their child how their day was and what happened in music, if their child was excited about it, it would in turn make the parent excited as well. It had to be fun for both child and parent.

With this information, we started implementing different ideas. The children would tell us that they enjoyed playing games and so we took this to the next level. In fact everything in our music sessions became a game of some description.Teachers never had a chance to sit down in our school - they were too busy having fun and playing games. Notes would be learn’t with stories and note races, kids would be running up to the piano with special cues, games were played learning pieces - even aural activities were a game. In general the place became a bustling games area! …. And the other thing that started happening was that we were suddenly growing out of control. We only had a small music school premises, but suddenly there was no room left in the car park, in the hallways and parents wanted to start learning in this method as well in our lunch hour!….many had told us that MUSIC HAD NEVER BEEN SO MUCH FUN! On top of this, our older students started achieving the highest exam results we had ever seen…

So what changed?

All we did was come up with strategies in playing games. Basically we came up with literally thousands of games ideas and on a lesson to lesson basis and for two years we tested them, made them work and we taught them to our staff members and students. The spin off effect was that students started remembering more…and therefore achieved higher grades.

In essence this is what the FUN music company is about. We no longer have time to teach anymore because we are too busy packaging the ideas we have been using in our years as music teachers. It is impossible to be a teacher and to keep coming up with more and more ideas without an end in sight. So now we are ready to share these ideas with others.. so that they dont need to be spending years getting it right. Our passion is to make music learning fun and easy for everyone at the click of a button - not just for those in our home town, but to share it around the world and increase the enjoyment of music for everyone.

A Personal Story from Janice Tuck, about how she took a music school from no students to 200 in under two years. Investigates the power of games in both inspiring children to learn music and building the business.

Love, Youth and Envy: Poems

Monday, September 29th, 2008

1) The Missing Song

An era in me embraces my youth
It seems but an autumn’s day,
When life and love, with jealous hast,
Went fast, and grabbed it all away!…

For then, no more a thoughtful breeze;
It somberly moves me now—
And haunts my breast, its absentness
The living grave of remembrance.

#1331

2) Envy’s Men

The smarter men despise me so,
I think we must disagree,
Alas, it is second envy
The only proof ‘twixt them and me,
I dream and they envy.

#1332

3) Past Loves

I buried love with hope
But it did not obey:
I said: it didn’t care
About my little pains—
And yes, I changed…!

#1333

4) Circles in Love

All my life,
I was a sacrifice
to love—
domineering it is!
If true gracious love
appeared,
I dare say,
her face was never clear,
and soon
she walked away.

I have gained some wisdom
with my pain
and with all her pride,
she has none—.
Two tyrants now,
mostly vane:
lost in a world of one.

#334

Note: Written in the evening of: 4/30/2004 and the Morning of: 5/1/2006. Love, envy, pain, pride, youth, memories, they all revolve round in circles: small circles, then bigger ones; make us dizzy, especially if one is fickle. We live half our lives, if not most or all, fighting loves shadow. We want it to be (romantic love that it), to be the utmost, the high of highs. We have our first love, and we fall hard usually, we remember it all our lives. Then somehow we find our wives [or wife], raise our children, work hard, go to church, a few vacations, etcetera; and that even disappears sometimes: nowadays, most of the times. Then we go hunting again (or shopping), looking for our death partner: perhaps, the one we will be buried with, or by; then we get thinking of the ones we left behind; you see, the circle never ends. Perchance you never got caught in the circle, the better you are for it, for love was never meant to be a burden: like lust, or greed, or selfishness; we just kind of made it that way.

What Everybody Ought to Know About Fairytales

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Imagine a world without television, without internet, without shopping malls, without cinemas….Disaster? Oh no! It was just like that when the creation of fairytales took place in order to satisfy the entertainment needs of the grown-ups! As you can imagine, at first, all stories, which today are supposed to focus on children, were written primarily for grown-ups. It is obvious that in the old days people did not have as many opportunities for amusement as they have nowadays, while, they had apparently plenty of time to spare. Thus, they created a new form of activity for their leisure time. Fairytales!

Certain types of stories served several different purposes in ancient years. Their entertainment role was important and lasted through time (for example, Odyssey - by Homer), but it was not the sole. They, also, used to explain natural phenomena which were not explainable by early science, they depicted aspects of moral issues and customs of certain regions, they tried to regulate behavior with their didactics, they attempted to describe the dawn of civilization, and ultimately they sought out a way to justify why the world was the way it was. Tales were a vital form of expression and an essential practice in daily life. This is perhaps one of the reasons that researching fairytales is fascinating.

During the Edwardian/Victorian period, however, fairy tales started focusing mainly on kids. Hard times, tight economy, the need to face reality and the daily problems turned people to more realistic issues. Fables, fiction and sagas were not serious things to be bothered. Fantasy was not important, as it assumed to be childish.

In recent years fairy tales are once again the center of the interest of many grown-ups. In 1971 Anne Sexton, a Pulitzer Prize winning poet, published her poetry anthology, Transformations, where famous tales are interpreted in a way not approved for the youngest audience. But also, child-like tales are adapted to attract wider audiences. Classical tales are rewritten to become movies and new films (such as Shrek, Ice Age etc.) catch the attention of grown-ups and gain fairly their place to the history of original fairytales.

It is noticeable that fairytales are worth to be taken more seriously into account. You can now plead an alibi for reading fairytales without allowing others accusing you for childishness. You should not be anxious whether a tale is meaningful for a child or not. Look at the history of its creation. Fairytales are aimed at a very wide audience and they deserve your respect.

Numerology Guide: Your House Number Rules Your Future!

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Do you know the numerical value of your name and your lucky number? Have you considered the numerological aspects before buying your new home, PC, mobile phone or car?

Numerology affects every part of your life, whether you know it or not! The numbers are interlocked by the mysteries of Nature. Each number is a science.

Well, this is most intriguing part of numerology. Whether you buy your new mobile phone or house, the affect of numerology on its success is immense. And once the deal is done with right numerological assistance, you will find the difference after some time.

Let’s find out how numbers affect your decision to a new home. Before finally deciding about your house, do some preliminary calculations yourself, so that you get the feel of numerology.

How to do it? It is simple. Just take full house number, irrespective of the number of digits and add all of the numbers together and reduce the result to a one digit number.

For example if the house number is 4481, add up all the numbers. That is, 4 4 8 1 comes out to be 17. Add again to a one digit number. In the case in point it is 8. Now you have to find out what are the numerological advantages of number 8 and whether its suits in relation to various other related calculations which your numerologist will make for your benefit.

There is a prescribed guide to different numerological numbers. For the purpose of general understanding, we take as if your house number is 1. What does it have in store for you?

The 1 House: In this house, your motivation will remain at the top. Your independence is protected here. If you are alone, nothing like it! Living in this house, you will implement your plans thoroughly and you will have lots of energy. You will make fresh beginnings. This is a shining number and you will have passion for collecting lamps. Control your aggression, however!

The house number alone will not give the ultimate results for you. Many other divine factors, your karmic deeds will exert their influence either in the positive direction or in the negative, as the case may be.

After all, duality is the hall mark of the Universe. Every number has both positive as well as negative aspects. Numerology precisely explains the impact of numbers on your life.
Here is your guide to numbers.

Number 1: The person ruled by number 1 is ought to be self dependent and strong minded individual. Though these people may turn egotist and selfish at times.

Number 2: Number 2 makes you sensitive and deep in the emotions. You love to work with others maintaining the love and harmony. Many a times your emotions may make you hypersensitive and touchy.

Number 3: Number 3 is the number of fun, wit and mental agility. The person is by nature going to be argumentative, anxious and stressed out.

Number 4: 4 number is for the ones who are organized and structured people. They are very sure of their ideas, so they may also be obsessive and dogmatic in their beliefs.

Number 5: Number 5 calls for freedom in terms of everything. The influence of number 5 on person makes him urge for expansion. These people very soon feel trapped in or hemmed in if denied their freedom.

Number 6: 6 is the number for home loving and creative people. These people are possessive about their things and may exhibit negative energies of being clingy and jealous.

Number 7: Number 7 rules to make you a teacher and a learner. These people may face difficulties and challenges in their life.

Number 8: This is the number of deep empowering nature. People ruled by number 8 ought to be in control of things and financially astute. They are well assertive but at times turn out to be domineering and miser.

Number 9: 9 Number is for completion, responsibility, care and humanitarian love. But this is also their weakness as they are over protective and over-analytical in most of the cases.

This is just the basic guide to numbers. But primarily your house number is ruled by the number traits mentioned above.

Darkness

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

The darkness closes in , shielding me from the safety of light
My feet tread heavily as I listen
Ears alert, breath held, heart heavy
Yet there is nothing but the darkness

The ever enveloping darkness
With claws to steal at you
With it’s breath like ice
And it’s tongue slaking at every turn

I feel any amount of emotion
my senses heightened
I fear to look back
For I believe in doing so I will never see light again

What was that? I heard a sound!
The darkness whispers softly in my ears
Beckoning me, hailing me
my footsteps tread heavily

I begin to walk with more haste
Trying to escape the clutches of darkness
For now I fear for my life
Looking back would surely mean I perish

The darkness draws ever nearer
I can see it reaching out
Trying to dispel all my fears
My heart beats with vigour

The hands of darkness are upon me
I seem to be falling into it’s depths
It’s icy fingers tear at my whole being
Trying to take me with it

It has me now
I am completely engulfed
I close all my senses to the horror of it
It smells of pure evil

With one last thrust
It has taken away my soul
My inner being was my only sanctuary
But the darkness took all

Will I ever see light again?
Or has the darkness invaded my veins
pulsing through me with it’s evil intentions?
I feel so very cold

Comic Book Cretion Tips

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

If comic book creation is what you want to learn or do, then you are in luck. In this day and age the process of comic creation has never been easier. A rookie can learn how to create great comics without working at a comic book company like marvel or even going to comic book related classes. Well, going to comic book related classes has never much been the norm.

The general public still thinks that when it comes to comic book creation you have to have a lot of talent in drawing or sequential story telling. Contrary to popular belief I would have to say that this is not necessarily true. Don’t get me wrong, some creators do have more talent in writing than others and some have more talent in drawing than others. My major point is this, there is a common factor with all creators whether talented or not. This common factor rests in the fact that every one of these creators has to learn and continually learn.

Reality is, many of these talented creators that we know about today did a lot of practice and learning to become as talented as they are. So what I’m I saying? I’ll make it quick and to the point. What we know as talent is usually learned. This means that a less than average comic book creator can become a talented comic book creator. This is good news especially to those placed in the category of the less talented because if you are interested in comic book creation, you should learn all you could to be the best comic book creator you possibly can be. Who knows, you as well may one day be considered a great talented comic book creator.

For some the mentioning of comic book creation may automatically bring thoughts of learning how to draw and write comic books. This is not just it. There are a lot of things involved in comic book creation. And the knowledge of these things can make life a lot simpler in the art of comic book creation. These other things include knowing your audience, marketing/advertising, selling your comic books and all the other nips and tricks that can make a comic appear more appealing. These even include software knowledge. It is important to be aware of all these factors that lead to an appealing comic book.

For example, some software have literally reduced a creators work and can even allow them to self publish. Soft wares like Adobe Photo shop and My Comic Book Creator has made life much easier for some creators. In fact My Comic Book Creator is one of the few comic book related software that allow you to create your comic book from start to finish. This software implements an easy copy and paste method for anyone who does not know how to draw but have a lot of pictures. Note that this software is not software that you can use to color and edit your pictures like in Photo shop. And it definitely would not draw your pictures for you, so don’t expect these extra functions.

Furthermore, my comic book creator software would allow you to organize your pages, add background images, and create text bubbles and panels. These functions on this software alone would quicken the creation process while keeping your work neat and professional. I must add, a neat and professional looking comic book enhances the appeal of the comic book. Therefore, as an aspiring comic book creator, make it your duty to learn about comic book creation, so that you to can also create an excellent comic book.

I am a co-owner of Comic Book and Strip Service, which is centered in helping creators develop unique and appealing concepts. You can visit us at comic-book-and-strip-service.com www.comic-book-and-strip-service.com.
