It Was Not Me

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

It was not me as I am now.
It was not me as I was then.
It was then when God was truly in me.
When God was in me, I was a young man.
A young man with hope, will and desire.
Desire to give my love and the gift of God to the ones in need.

You see, that was me.

Thus, it was not me who hurt you so,
But it was me as I was then.
It was then when God was not in me.
That is when I hurt you though.

Now I can really see it was not me, who scarred you so.
Your innocence, your trust in me, the weak moment in your life,
Was abused by me.
But that was not really me.

You have to see it was not me as I was before,
Or as I am now,
Or as I will ever be.
No! It was not me!
It was he who was not me.
It was he who will never be me.
It was he and me who hurt you so.
No! It was not really me, who hurt you.

I hear you say that it was not you who hurt me so.
You said it was not you
Who stole my innocence,
Who stole my love for life,
Who stole my respect for myself.
You said it was not you who hurt me so.

I was only a boy, ten-year-old boy when my parents abused me so.
I was weak, sad and confused.
I was hurt by someone I loved and trusted so.

I came to you to help me heal.
I came to you because God told me to.
I came to you because you said God was in you.
I came to you because I trusted you more than I trusted mysel
I came to you because perfection of love was in you.
Yes, I came to you.

Your loving tone of voice made me trust you even more.
You listened to me like no one had before.
Your touch was gentle, soft and warm.
Your touch made me feel that I was in a safe place.
Your compassion made me feel the healing in me.
Your soft gaze told me you were the God-sent man.
The man God sent to help me and others like me.

When you put me on your lap, you gave me a hug.
A hug of love, that was doubt-free.
Transcendence in me took all the pain away.
I felt safe because of you.
I felt loved once again because of you.
I felt I was a good little boy because of you.
A good boy who deserved all the goodness in the world;
A good boy with a bright future ahead of him.

But when you put your hands in my pants,
I got confused, but did not refuse to do the same to you.
For it was you who told me then:
“My sweet child you are safe here.
You are safe when you are with me.
You are loved by God in me.
It is God who sent you here,
It is God who wants you to trust me.
So my little boy do trust God in me;
And do what feels good to you.”

It was you who said that the God in you
Was loving, and that He knew what’s good for me.
And that God in you wants me to please you.
And by pleasing you I’ll be pleasing God;
And by pleasing God my pain will go away.

But you did not say that by you touching me that way,
And by me doing the same to you will harm me even more.
You did not say that all this would destroy me so.
You did not say that your love was a lie.
You did not say that you were an evil man.
You did not say that what was in you was not really God,
But the opposite of Him.

Now that I am a grown man,
I know that trusting you was a mistake,
And an error I made.
A mistake and error with irreversible consequences.
The consequences that brought pain in me even more.
The pain, turmoil and darkness in me is now too much for me to endure.

Now you can see why I must go;
Why I must go to a pain-free place.
For the pain in me is unbearable.
Thus, I must go to a secret place,
A place of no return.

Oh my son, please do not go,
There is still hope for you.
Oh my son, it was not me who hurt you so.
Oh my son it was not me as I am now;
It was not me who injured you so.
It was he who was not me when the true God was in me.
Oh my son, please do not go.
There is still hope for you.
It was not me who hurt you so.
Oh my son, please do not go.

Guns N’ Roses - Here Today - Gone To Hell!

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

The world really didn′t know what to expect of a band with a name like Guns N’ Roses. With their debut album in 1987 entitled “Appetite for Destruction,” they were greeted with open arms by many. This album has remained one of the band’s most popular albums to date. The band members included Axl Rose, who was the lead vocalist, and lead guitarist Tracii Guns, who was later replaced by Slash. The rhythm guitarist was Izzy Stradlin, while Rob Gardner was banging the drums. In 1990 the band added Dizzy Reed to their line-up with his talent for the keyboards.

Their debut single was “Welcome to the Jungle.” This was a fast-selling fan favorite and is still played quite often on the heavy metal stations worldwide. Guns N’ Roses quickly became one of the fastest-selling heavy metal bands, adored by fans worldwide.

Top-Selling Albums Released by Guns N’ Roses:

Although Guns N’ Roses has gone through several member changes and the lead members Axl and Slash have since parted ways, they did manage to release six successful albums, including:

1. “Appetite for Destruction,” released in 1987
2. “G n R Lies,” released in 1988
3. “Use Your Illusions 1,” released in 1991
4. “Use Your Illusions 2,” released in 1991
5. “The Spaghetti Incident,” released in 1993
6. “Live Era 87-93,” released in 1999

Guns N’ Roses Name is Sought After by Leading Members

Once the band decided to split up, both Axl and Slash wanted to keep the name Guns N’ Roses. This battle of the band would finally be won by Axl Rose. Most fans still prefer the sound the original members, Axl and Dizzy, have added to the band over the years.

Guns N’ Roses is scheduling a new album for release in 2007, entitled “The Chinese Democracy.” Fans of Guns N’ Roses are waiting to see just what Axl has to offer them. Guns N’ Roses actually planned the released of the album in 2002. The release of the groups’ album was blocked by Axl, who sued the record company to prevent the release of an album that was not his best.

He was successful in his endeavor. The album was blocked and is due to be released in 2007. Heavy metal fans worldwide await the album. Guns N′ Roses, it seems, may be around for many years to come.

Photography - Rules of Composition

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Composition is defined as the combining of distinct parts or elements to form a whole. In photography that definition is very important in taking quality pictures. The following rules of composition should be learned and considered but not necessarily used in every photo. Once you have learned these rules you will be more observant of the possible photo opportunities that surround you. But keep in mind that the really famous photographers usually find a creative way to stretch or break the rules of composition.

RULE OF THIRDS

The rule of thirds has been used through the centuries and is probably the most recognized rule. The rule of thirds directs that the frame can be divided into three vertical sections and three horizontal sections. Wherever the separating lines connect is an ideal spot for a subject or point of interest. By positioning your main subject at any of the four intersection points, you are giving your subject more emphasis than if it is right in the middle of the photo. The intersection points can also work if there is more than one main subject in a photo. Most famous photographs and paintings have the rule of thirds applied to them in some way or another.

SIMPLICITY

The simplicity rule directs that you should keep the items in your photo relatively simple. If your main subject is close to the lens, then your background should be very simple in order to avoid distractions. Another good idea is to avoid objects or lines that lead the eye away from your main subject.

CONTRAST

The contrast rule directs that light subjects should be placed against dark backgrounds and vice versa.

FRAMING

The framing rule directs that using natural surroundings mindfully can add more meaning and focus to your subject. The surroundings could be anything such as bushes, windows, trees or even a doorway. When using this rule be sure to focus on the main subject and not on the surroundings that are framing it. It is also a good idea to use a narrow aperture (high f/stop) when using this rule in order to create a high depth-of-field.

TEXTURE

The texture rule can add a great amount of interest to most photos. When people see texture in a photo it can spark their imagination and make the photo more real to life. Texture would be a good idea when taking photos of rocks, walls, surfaces, hands or even leaves. In order to create texture try to compose your photo so the light is coming from the side and therefore casting shadows in key places.

DIAGONALS

The diagonal rule directs that diagonal elements or lines can make a photo more dynamic. Diagonal elements could be fence posts, roads or even tree branches.

LEADING LINES

The leading lines rule can be used to direct the eye deeper into a photo and commonly to the main subject. Leading lines can lure the eye to a subject by leading to it from any side or depth of the photo. Leading lines could be roads, rivers, tree branches or even bridges.

COLOR

The color rule is what adds interest and emotion to your pictures. Different color configurations can inspire and amaze viewers. Colors can also be used to accent certain parts of a photo.

It might not be a bad idea to keep these key terms with you when you practice taking photos. The best way to learn and improve your composition is just to use them often and to experiment.

Guitar Playing Tip-5 Hot Fixes For Your Playing

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Simple guitar playing tips can be the difference between a guitarist who improves everyday due to efficient practicing or someone who rarely gets better because they practice the wrong things or the right things the wrong way. Learning to play guitar can be a mine field so I have compiled a list of simple tips to help you while learning to play guitar.

Guitar playing tip 1:
Decide what kinds of things you want to be able to play. Many people never give this a thought, and so they kind of bumble through and learn the odd song/lick here and there, and after a few years they can play some guitar but they aren’t exactly the musician they imagined they would be. You can prevent this disappointment by having a clear objective beforehand.

Guitar playing tip 2:
Develop a regular practice schedule-even it’s practicing changing from a D chord to a G chord for ten minutes each day while you watch the evening news. If you can maintain some form of practice at the same time everyday it will be much easier to keep to it, and you will improve much faster than if you just practice when you can fit it in.

Guitar Playing Tip 3:
Get a metronome. Just about everything you ever play on guitar will sound a lot better if you work it with a metronome whilst you learn it. A metronome not only helps you learn to keep time, but it will also highlight any irregularities in your playing. Notes that are too short or too long or chord changes that aren’t perfect will stand out very clearly.

Guitar Playing Tip 4:
Play with other musicians. This will make you improve perhaps more than anything else. Something about the adrenaline coupled with the fact that you have to seriously concentrate on what other people are playing makes you improve like you won’t believe until you try it. It doesn’t have to be a full on band either, it could be just a buddy with and acoustic or even a harmonica!

Guitar Playing Tip 5:
Get to know your guitar. Do you know exactly what your guitar will sound like if you hit the strings very softly using just the middle pickup with the guitar volume at about 2.7? Well you should. Knowing stuff like this is one of the keys to being an excellent all round guitar player. There are few things as cool as seeing a guitarist switching from sound to sound for different licks using only the guitar and no pedals/footswitch.

There are so many different sides of guitar playing that these guitar playing tips could have easily numbered in the thousands, but obviously there isn’t space for that here so hopefully these five will do for now!

NBA Playoffs Overview

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Dallas is best in the West this year and should feast on the East in the 2007 NBA Playoffs, which get underway this weekend with a pair on games in each conference on Saturday and Sunday.

The operative word is “should,” as this is professional sports and there’s no such thing as a lock.

A majority of folks gave the Mavs thumbs up in the Finals last season, but Miami netted the White House invite.

Professional Handicappers League member Bill Fishman says whichever team comes out of the Eastern Conference this year — he prefers Cleveland — stands a chance of taking the crown because (1) it only has to beat one team in one series and (2) the Western Conference champion well could get beaten up in its own conference finals, which figures to be an extended bloodbath.

Fishman is going with the flow, though, and designating Dallas as the league’s heir apparent.

The Mavericks, who went a stratospheric 67-15, including four straight losses to greet the season, open their Round 1 series on Sunday versus Golden State, the West’s No. 8 seed, which made the postseason for the first time in 13 years.

Dallas generally was a 10-point choice with the total at 214 1/2 on Thursday night, though the spread had widely dropped to 9 1/2 by Friday morning..

Cleveland grabbed the East’s No. 2 seed behind Detroit on the last night of the regular season and opens against No. 7 Washington, also on Sunday.

The Cavaliers were 11 to 12-point favorites, with 11 1/2 the prevailing number the over/under was 190, though 191s were available.

Like so many, Fishman thinks it’s simply Dallas’ year.

“You can′t say enough about how important it is for Dallas to have the No. 1 seed,” he said.

“This guarantees they only see the Suns or Spurs (instead of both).

“The Mavericks, in my opinion, came into the season on a mission to return to the Finals.

“Last year’s loss to Miami truly left a bad taste in the Mavericks’ mouths and gave them incentive for this year.

“It’s easy for anyone to take chalk, but I just feel Dallas′ overall roster and style can match up against any style in the West and be dominant.

“The defense the Mavs play at time goes under the radar and they don’t get enough credit.

“Avery Johnson continues to do a solid job on the sidelines and he doesn’t receive enough credit for his leadership.”

Fishman believes the Eastern Conference is riddled with burning questions.

“Detroit has the best record, but I don′t feel the Pistons will win the conference,” he said.

“Miami, with a less-than-100 percent Dwyane Wade, won’t get it done either.

“Shaq (O′Neal) isn’t what he used to be, although he still has his moments.

“Chicago has a lot of exciting young talent and the Bulls are fun to watch, but dropping to the No. 5 seed hurt their chances.

“I think it will be Lebron’s (James) year to shine and get to the Finals.

“I like the team, which continued to improve and develop some solid depth.”

Fishman doesn’t envision the East winning the whole enchilada, however.

“As I said earlier, I feel it’s the Mavericks′ year,” he reiterated.

“I don’t see the East winning the Finals … but anything can happen, just like last year when a lot of calls went Miami’s way when needed.

“Just look at Wade’s numbers from the foul line.

“The bigger challenge this season for the West will be just surviving the Western Conference and getting to the Finals.

“I like Dallas to win in a short series.”

“Sleepers″ aren’t as accustomed to winning the NBA as they are some other teams sports, but Fishman detects a few this year.

“You have to watch the Houston Rockets in the West,” he said.

“They will have to be road warriors, though, coming from the No. 5 seed.

“The only other team that intrigues me is Denver.

“The Nuggets played well down the stretch and have been a solid road team recently.

“In the East, the bottom teams are playing badly and I just do not like anyone beyond Cleveland, Detroit and maybe Miami.

“The NBA is probably behind the NHL as far as a sleeper team getting to the Finals.

“It just really never happens.

“Nothing in the East looks good.

“The first-round series that interests me the most is Denver and San Antonio.

“It should be exvciting.

“The Spurs have been there and play solid defense, but can they stay with the quickness of Denver?

“I also will have my eyes on Dallas and Golden State because of how hot the Warriors have been down the stretch and how they have played well against Dallas.”

Steve Merril’s College Fullcourt Report (Mar. 28)

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Many sports fans are looking towards the Final Four this weekend in the NCAA Tournament, but another Final Four starts tonight with the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The early matchup between Old Dominion and Michigan involves a CAA squad from a conference that has suddenly gained national prominence thanks to George Mason’s amazing Cinderella run.

The late game tonight features last year’s NIT champion in South Carolina as the Gamecocks try to win back-to-back titles. Head coach Dave Odom looks to make the NIT finals for the fourth time in the past eight seasons as he also won the tournament in 2000 with Wake Forest and lost in the finals in 2002 with South Carolina.

OLD DOMINION (-1, 136) vs. MICHIGAN – 7:00 pm ET (espn2)

An interesting line move in this game as Michigan opened as a 2-point favorite and enough money has come in on Old Dominion this week to move the Monarchs to a 1-point favorite.

It is very likely that the Big Ten’s poor showing and the Colonial Athletic Association’s strong showing in the NCAA Tournament, especially George Mason’s shocking upset of Connecticut on Sunday, has played a large role in this line move.

All six Big Ten teams failed to make it past second round in the Big Dance, while CAA representative NC-Wilmington held a 14-point lead over George Washington and George Mason has defeated Connecticut, North Carolina, and fellow Big Ten squad Michigan State.

Old Dominion was a preseason favorite to win the CAA title, but this veteran Monarch squad underachieved this year. ODU has turned things around in the NIT with an impressive road upset win at Colorado and a home win over Manhattan. Perhaps the Monarchs most impressive victory was their 61-51 win at Hofstra last Wednesday considering the Pride had a 21-game home winning streak and had beaten George Mason twice in the past month.

While the bettors seem to be backing Old Dominion, keep in mind that Michigan is better than their overall record and season statistics indicate as the Wolverines battled numerous injuries during the course of the season. Three of the team’s top five scorers were absent at different times over the past couple of months, but now Dion Harris (11.5 ppg), Lester Abram (10.7 ppg), and Chris Hunter (8.0 ppg) are all back in the lineup together.

SOUTH CAROLINA (-2, 124 ½) vs. LOUISVILLE – 9:20 pm ET (espn2)

A strong improvement down the stretch is why both South Carolina and Louisville reached the NIT Final Four. Louisville is 7-1 ATS over their past eight games, while South Carolina is a perfect 8-0 ATS during the same span.

South Carolina’s road to New York is more impressive as the Gamecocks needed to win back-to-back games as a road underdog and are now playing their third straight game away from home. South Carolina was fortunate to catch a Western Kentucky squad without their starting point guard, Courtney Lee, in the opening round after the Gamecocks had played four games in four days and barely lost to Florida in the SEC Tournament three days earlier.

After the easy 74-55 home victory over the Hilltoppers, the Gamecocks notched a 69-68 overtime win at Florida State and then garnered another close road win at Cincinnati 65-62. The Gamecocks were once again fortunate as two of the Bearcat’s top scorers, James White and Jihad Muhammad, were declared ineligible only hours before tip-off.

Louisville’s road to the NIT Final Four has been easier as the Cardinals were able to play their first three tournament games at home on a strong home court where Louisville went 19-3 SU this season. The most recent win was an impressive 74-56 blowout of a Missouri State team that many experts felt should have made the Field of 65.

Louisville has struggled away from home this season, going just 2-9 SU in road and neutral court games. The Cardinals rely heavily on the three-point shot as over 41 percent of their field goal attempts come from beyond the arc. They should have success against a suspect South Carolina perimeter defense that allowed 36.2 percent from three-point range this season (versus opponents that averaged just 35.7 percent overall).

Learn A New Language - Should You Learn French Or Spanish?

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

If you want to learn a second language, you should learn French or Spanish. Why? Because French is the most commonly spoken language in the world after English…

French is seen by many as the language of love. I don’t know why but French seems to be a synonym of romance. It is true that Paris is a beautiful place, don’t you want to have a walk on the champs Elysées?

Spanish is also a language that you should consider. French is my native tongue, but Spanish sounds more romantic than French to me.

Something that you will find very interesting if you choose to learn any of these too languages is that once you know one, it will be really easy to learn to speak the other. I said speak, because writing might be an issue.

Suppose you decide to study French for example. Most of the Spanish word are similar to French words because both languages come from the Latin (nobody speak Latin anymore, but you can still study it in France).

Let me give you an example: Let translate the word “photography″ in English: in French, this word will become ‘photographie’. In ‘Espagnol’ (Spanish), the word “photography″ is said: “fotografía” (note the accent on the ‘i′).

So let’s recapitulate: Photography ==> photographie ==> fotografía.

These words are really close, you don’t think?

Another example: In English, the word ’school’ becomes ‘école’ in French, and ‘escuela’ in Spanish.

Again, these words seem to have the same root. There are hundreds of words like these.

So if you are hesitating between Spanish and French, don’t be stuck: Learn French and Spanish, or Spanish and French.

You will feel much better when you master two or three languages, and who knows you may become a professional translator.

By the way, look at this: Translation in English becomes Traduction in French and finally, traducción in Spanish.

There are really hundreds of examples… Another question that you may ask is: is Spanish easier Than French? We will see that in another article.

How to Quickly Play Piano Using the Incredible Open Position Chord!

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Imagine being able to sit down at the piano and create your own unique music without years of study. Now imagine being able to do it within 1 hour! It’s possible when you learn how to play the open position piano chord!

The OPC is a special way of forming chords at the piano. You use both hands right away to create a modern sounding chord that’s perfect for today’s contemporary styles. It’s called “open position” because of the way the notes of the chord are spread out.

The left hand plays the root, fifth, and seventh notes of the chord while the right hand takes the third and seventh again. The sound is amazing but this isn’t the biggest benefit of this particular chord structure. The biggest benefit is what you can do with it!

For example, in the piano lesson “Reflections in Water,” you start by playing a C Major 7 OPC. Now that you have the chord what are you going to do to make music? You are going to improvise a melody with the right hand using the tones from the C Major scale. You see, all you really need to know in order to make your own music is chords and the scale the chords came from.

You need to know the notes of the scale so you can use them to improvise a melody. Now the beauty of the open position chord is that you don′t have to move your hands around too much in order to create a melody with. In fact, you can pretty much stay within this chord structure and create a beautiful piece of music.

Reflections in Water uses 4 chords to create a few minutes of music with. A beginner can learn to use this chord structure within 1 hour and create music with it. It really is that easy!

The African And European Music

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Although knowledge of and interest in African music has increased considerably among European and American music scholars in recent decades, its many forms remain among he least understood and most devalued of musical genres. Historically, many European and American (hereafter referred to as Western) critics regarded African music as a primitive mixture of coarse, unmusical vocal cries and hopelessly intricate drum beats. This is unfortunate, given the inherent musical richness of this art form, as well as its fascinating and pivotal role in African society.

The reasons for this dismissal are varied; cultural indifference and outright racism surely play a part. More subtly, though, the lack of interest may stem at least partially from the fact that African music does not lend itself to easy analysis through the lens of Western music theory. Until the mid-twentieth century, at least, Western music theory was as a self-important sheriff of a small town, intimately familiar with every nook and cranny of his own backyard, but utterly lost when he stepped across the county line. Then, music was most commonly analyzed along three axes—melody, harmony, and rhythm—and in each of these, African music confounded expectations.

Melodies use scales, in the case of Western music, a seven-tone scale system that had developed from the modes of medieval chants. African music, by contrast, employs a wide range of scales with varying numbers of tones, almost none of which correspond exactly to the Western norm. Harmony, or the instantaneous combination of pitches, was similarly problematic, as much of African music consists of several voices or instruments playing in unison*. This meant the music was entirely lacking in harmony, leaving the musicologist with nothing to sink his teeth into.

From famine to feast, the Western musicologist could then turn to rhythm. Western music at that time consisted of simple divisions of a beat based on the numbers two or three, stately music for stately dancing by stately people. By contrast, much of African music, especially the West and North African varieties most familiar to Europeans, has rhythms that are astoundingly complex and fast, and often contains several different rhythmic subdivisions simultaneously, based on the numbers two and three. The hapless Western musicologist was left entirely out of his depth. Musicologists were also accustomed to viewing music as a discrete entity, separate from the concerns of history, sociology, philosophy, and religion, while African music is intimately involved in each of these.

Likewise, music in Africa is rarely seen as a separate art form, distinct from dance, poetry, and storytelling. And African music is not only deeply intertwined with other art forms; it is intertwined with everyday life. There are traditional songs that mark every occasion from the mundane to the highly ceremonial. Many African societies have songs to mark births, deaths, marriages, and puberty rights, as well as day-to-day concerns like hunts, harvests, and meals. Some societies even carry out litigation through music, as parties present their arguments in song to a tribal elder, who then delivers his judgment likewise. Tellingly, one African society has no word for “music”—it is too fundamental to the fabric of life to be teased apart and considered as a separate thing. Surely, this resistance to dissection and analysis must help explain why Western musicologists were for so long unwilling or unable to cultivate an understanding of African music. Ironically, it also demonstrates the importance of such an understanding to anyone who wishes to learn about African culture as a whole.

Hulkamania is Still Alive!

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Hulk Hogan is one of the most popular and most recognizable professional wrestlers in the world. He has at various times gone by different ring names including: Hollyood Hogan, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Mr. America, The Super Destroyer, Terry “The Hulk,” Boulder, Sterling Golden, and Hulk Machine. Along with being one the most successful professional wrestlers of all time, he is also an occasional actor and reality television star with his own show, Hogan Knows Best, airing on VH1.

Hogan broke into the industry by training under legendary wrestler Hiro Matsuda for two years before beginning his career in the National Wrestling Alliance. He quickly moved up the ranks, having an early shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in 1979. Later that year, he would make his debut in the World Wrestling Federation, quickly gaining popularity in that organization as well. He would be let go a couple years later for appearing in the movie Rocky III movie against Vincent J. McMahon’s wishes. McMahon Sr., unlike his predecessor son, Vincent K.
