The Power of Words

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

I freely confess that I have had a life-long love affair with words. I fell in love with words by the flickering light of a pine-knot fire. I watched my story-telling father use words to hold the neighbors captive. I learned how to use them from anybody who could teach me.

Words have been used to support and praise me. They have also been used to attack and wound me. But I have never lost faith in their power or their durability.

Words can reveal thoughts, conceal pain, paint dreams, correct errors, and pass along dearly bought lessons to the latest generation. Words can transport knowledge from the past, interpret the present, and speak to the future. Words can build walls between people, or bridges. Words can tear down or build up, wound or heal, tarnish or cleanse.

The ability to use words can endear you to your fellows, win them to your side, and enable you to rise to heights you may now only dream of. That happened to my father’s son.

Pursuing the mastery of words is worth all the time, money, and energy that you can muster. And what you invest will be repaid with interest compounded.

Build up your knowledge so that your words are true. Nurture your spirit so that your words are kind, strong, and wise.

The world may little note nor long remember what you say here. And yet it may. For words, once they are released, take on a life of their own, and find lodging in places and hearts you may never know. But after many days, they may return to haunt you, or bless you.

Think carefully before you let them go.

Below is a short piece from the April 2005 issue of The Achievement Digest (TAD):

LINCOLN′S LOG: “Effective Communication”

Lincoln’s law partner William Herndon wrote: “He loved the study of grammar, which some think the most arid of subjects.”

Actually Lincoln was following the advice of Hugh Blair, whom Lincoln had read, who had written: “He that is learning to arrange his sentences with accuracy and order is learning, at the same time, to think with accuracy and order.”

Lincoln read aloud to himself in order to get a feel for the sound and logic of his words, and he wrote out his ideas as a way of arranging his thoughts.

Lincoln was not a good speller, but he took great pains in choosing his words. In one of his debates with Douglas, Lincoln accused his opponent of being sloppy about this. As Lincoln put it, a horse chestnut is not the same as a chestnut horse.

Here again, Lincoln was following Hugh Blair, who wrote: “Hardly in any language are there two words that convey precisely the same idea; a person thoroughly conversant in the propriety of language will always be able to observe something that distinguishes them…The bulk of writers are very apt to confuse them with each other, and to employ them carelessly…Hence a certain mist, and indistinctness, is unwarily thrown over style.”

If you are interested in Lincoln’s communication techniques, check out the DVD and CD “LINCOLN ON COMMUNICATION.” This resource is widely used as a training film for leadership and communication programs.

Liberals Can Dish it Out But the Cannot Take It

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

If you are a non-liberal then you know that liberals cannot take a joke and they will not take criticism. In fact they dish it out all day long and say things like; President Bush is ignorant and a moron. They say things like; Bible Thumpers Are Too Busy Hallucinating to Understand What Is Going On.

In fact, if he were to criticize the behavior of a liberal or challenge them on the words that they speak they will he immediately start calling you names. They start by trying to claim that they are intellectually superior to you; in my case this is absolutely unwarranted, in some cases they may or may not be correct.

Nevertheless, a liberal will tell you to go read a book or call you ignorant. However, if we look at the selective reading material of most liberals it is completely skewed towards their belief system in fact liberalism is more like a religion and religion is too conservativism. It is amazing when you challenge a liberal on facts, observations in the real world and their perception of what they believe has happened or occurred that they will call you unprofessional for not seen their point of view or perspective.

Indeed, I have argued many points of contention with liberals and I completely understand their perspective unfortunately they bring no new perspectives to the table that I have not already considered and yet claim to be of high intellect. However a docking the belief system of a group of people or a trendy movement of socialism, which is unfamiliar to the United States of America is not thinking and it is not intellectual pursuit.

Just because a liberal can raise their voice in opposition, this and moan about everything or complain about what goes on does not automatically make their perspective or perceptions correct. In fact it is quite obvious from anyone who steps back from the situation and looks at the whole picture that their views are simply incorrect. They claim to the intellectual yet disregard the reality of life on Earth and the known the constant of change or evolution of; flows, patterns, cycles and events of various human endeavors.

It is obvious that liberals are marching away from reality and care not to look back and therefore it is you relevant what they say or what they think. Trying to argue with a liberal is a waste of time. And isn’t it interesting that that’s exactly what they say about conservatives? If this is true why are we forced to see their perspective if they are unwilling to see ours? This article is a joke, I hope you got the joke. I’m just poking fun and I was just kidding. I think liberals are wonderful and sexy and I especially like the liberal women who grew up in the 60s. They really know their stuff.

Lakers Playoff Dreams End Disappointingly Again

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

The Los Angeles Lakers had another disappointing season. In the beginning of the season it appeared that the Lakers were all set to return to top after having a record of 26-13. But then the Lakers went and lost 27 of their last 43 regular season games and ended the season 42-40 but still made it to the playoffs.

However, Lakers could not live up to what the fans expected and in the first round of the playoffs, they were eliminated by the Phoenix Suns 4-1.

This is the third consecutive season that the Lakers have been disappointing after winning three championships and a spot in NBA finals in a span of five years. Now the question that keeps popping into ones mind is what direction are the Lakers going towards. At least that is what Kobe Bryant did after the Lakers lost the second consecutive game in the first round to the Suns.

From 2000 to 2004, the Lakers won 20 playoff series with Jackson, Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal in the team. They have also won four postseason games but no series in the last three years.

After the Lakers lost to Detroit in the 2004 NBA finals, they traded O’Neal, a move that was unavoidable because O’Neal wanted out and if they had kept him Bryant would have moved to the Clippers.

Bryant stayed on with the Lakers and signed a 7 year contract. He led the NBA in scoring the last two season but the support he has been getting in the court has its own limitations.

There is no doubt that the injuries suffered by Lakers players explains why the season and postseason went so woefully for the Lakers and added to that the draft picks in the last three years have done little to help them.

The Western Conference is full of strong teams and at the moment it does not look like the Lakers have what it would take for them to make an impact in the Conference next season.

The Lihmoirils - Rebellion of the Little Lion

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

(Journey into the Third Era)

(20,983 BC—Part Four)

Illiria, the hybrid born of Tyr and King Roneaf’s wife, Ewwam, was now seventeen years old, some eight feet tall, and quite a sportsman, and military officer. He was well liked among his own kind, the hybrids from the 200-demonic creatures that were now cohabitating with the women of Lihmoir. Many of the demonic forces took for them wives from married Lihmoirils, and their daughters at will, and now there were more children than the original two-hundred.

Illiria had now taken sides with the Lihmoirils, and had visited Roklem the Poet, and Rodlon, the previous advisor to King Roneaf. He wanted to help, and in this meeting in Rodlon’s grotto (help free the planet of chaos from the two-hundred renegade demonic forces), Odlon the Seer was present. In addition, Illiria, had found six young comrades his age, or perhaps a year younger, who felt the way he did, that the planet would never survive as long as the evil forces outnumbered the good forces.
And what could he do and his giant comrades do to rid the evil forces of the planet once and for all, assuming Rue would not intervene, for he had twice before, and twice he was let down.

The name of the followers of Illiria was: Ralov, Thogrom, Omlu, Ronaef’el, Ramadle, and Ewlo.

The Great Summit of Chaeronsierra

It was the third day of the meeting, called, ‘The Great Summit of Chaeronsierra,’ and Odlon the Seer had made several swords out of a meteorite, it was so strong it would, with the might of a strong man, cut through an enemy’s sword. And thus, Odlon, sitting around a fire, with the other guests, cast a spell on the swords, and summoned the several members of the Think Tank, the collateral and cosmic body that had oversaw Toso, years prior, in particular the Cobbler, asking the Cobbler if he and his group would be the new vanguard of Lihmoir, and how could the forces of Illiria overpower their parents?

The Cobbler did appear at the third meeting, in the physical form, he was likened to his comrades (The General, Governor, Captain…etc.) under the command of Rue, yet Rue had given them the planet Toso to rule over (but that is of course history now).

This, said the Cobbler, “At your request I have come, Rue has given only me to you for advise, and I myself am not beyond the power of Marduk and his horde, perhaps equal at this moment to them, but surely not able to devour all two-hundred, as I’m sure you would like me to,” pointing to Illiria.

The Little Lion (Illiria) then showed his teeth saying, “Cannot you or the Seer, make my fangs poisonous and thus, when I bite the enemy, they will disappear?”

The Cobbler smiled, said not a word, as if it was a rhetorical question, but added,

“I have an idea, a psychological tactic, with substance.”

(During this meeting the Seer gave to each of Illiria’s forces a sword, to include Illiria. Then he cast a spell on the swords, and they glowed, as if they were of radiation, and he said, once you cast this sword deep into the guts of the enemy, they will be bound into the abyss of the same material they had once come out of through a crack made by the old king, King Roneaf.) And all who listened believed. And he named the spell, “The Spell of the Little Lion,” and the swords took the names of its owners and spoke as if they were living things.

And Rue planted into the minds of the two-hundred demonic beings, this obsession of death to those who would be cut deep by the swords. But only the Cobbler and Seer knew of this. And word had swept through the Kingdom—as often times bad news does—that a meeting had taken place in the grotto of Rodlon, and Marduk, the Tiamat and Agaliarept heard the echoes of the meeting, they called these echoes to their chamber, and listed to them for hours, read the hearts of those who spoke, and those who listened at the meeting, and those who believed this was so. And they could not discriminate a falseness of this (though it was psychosomatic). And the demon heard the swords talk, and knew it was of a higher power, and they wondered and worried.

Henceforward, the day of the battle arrived, and all seven young hybrids, stood solidly together at the gates of the city, in the uttermost darkness, the Little Lion, was in front of all six. The hearts of the 200 were sunk in despair, Marduk and the Tiamat, left, as did all the others except Semyas, who claimed, he did not go along with the group, therefore was not subject to its punishment of abandonment. And Illiria, gave him refuge, and allowed him to remain in his old position (astrometry demon).

And so closes a chapter on Lihmoir history, but let me add for your sake, Illiria became the youngest King on Lihmoir, as the Poet, stepped down, by his own free will, and did what he did best, write poetry and wrote his journal; the people elected a hero in his place, and were very proud of him. And it also must be said King Illiria admired King Nirut, as perhaps the Alexander of the Black Galaxy; as we all must have heroes. And in time, Illiria would become liken to Augustus of Rome, and rule the planet for 44-years, and then … (well that’s another story).

Personalize The Entire Year Through Photo Calendars

Friday, March 30th, 2007

If it were not for pictures, the world would indeed be a very dull place to live in. Someone rightly said this. Imagine a world without pictures well I am certain that the only image which comes to your mind is a blank surface and nothing else. Photos have made our lives colorful, beautiful and have in fact given a new direction to the way we maintain our relationships and other things in life. Photo calendars are a wonderful means that help you to create your personalized calendar that you can use through out the year. Imagine how wonderful it will be to have a photo calendar that has been made and designed specially for you. You do not have to go through the whole trouble of creating that personalized photo calendar. There are various companies which specialize in making this type of personalized calendars.

To make a customized photo calendar or photo calendars, the first task for you is to find out an agency that specializes in making this. Well you can also make this personally if you have proper knowledge about using all the software for this. However it is suggested that you get the work done by a professional whom is an expert in this field. Also it is not possible that any one would like to make photo calendars. When you talk to the professionals to make the photo calendars tell them specifically what you want. If required sit with them and tell them properly which photo should come in which month of the calendar. Also if you have customized messages top be put in the calendar tell them where you want them to place it and how you would like to get it done.

Photo calendars make for a wonderful gift as well. Think of innovative ways through which you can give a personal touch to the photo calendar and distribute this to your close friends and family. One innovative thing you can include in the photo calendar is to have pictures of your family members in the 12 pages depicting the twelve months of the year. The pictures can be arranged in such a way that the picture coordinates with the birth date of that family member. Suppose your sister’s birthday is on 23rd of May, you can have her picture customized on that page in the calendar in the month of May. That is not all; you can also highlight that date on the calendar so that no one will forget the date. Similarly you can also highlight anniversaries and special occasions that are associated with your family.

Generally photo calendars are printed on white glassy paper bound with a spiral. The calendar can be of different sizes and shape but the one that you can put on your corner desktop near the bed is perfect. In fact this can be put anywhere where there is a little space. If you are not interested in putting personal pictures in the photo calendars you can choose from different pictures that are available almost everywhere. Well with the world full of pictures, this is not at all going to be difficult at all.

Casino Merchant Account - Helpful Tips For Popular Online Casino Games

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Online gaming, just like mainstream gambling in casinos, can be a very exhilarating experience, as is typical with most games of chance. The heady rush of winning and the immediate gratification of knowing how much you won is something virtually all gaming enthusiasts are looking forward to. Nowadays, you can almost play any game of chance you see in mainstream casinos on the Internet, with websites being creative enough to provide a casino “atmosphere”, look, and feel to their website.

While it is true that in online gaming, much like mainstream gambling, the outcome of the game is pretty much left to chance and luck, it does help to know more about your favorite games, just so as to work a kind of approach, or strategy, to your gaming experience.

Here are some tips that many online gamers have found to be quite helpful:

• It helps if you play your maximum coins on the slot machines. If you have your heart set on the progressive jackpot of a slot machine, then playing max coins is the way to go. Should you choose not to play maximum amount of coins, you may not win the jackpot even if you hit on the winning combination of reels for the slot machine. This is not to say you’ll leave empty-handed, it’s just that you won’t bag the big one you had your eyes on.

• Playing the maximum paylines bags you the prize. When playing the video slot machine, using the maximum amount of paylines, and not just the maximum amount of coins, will get you to the eventual jackpot. Even if you get a wining combo, playing one line only may not get you the win. The only way to secure a win is if a winning combo hits on a payline that you paid for.

• Go for the highest hand you can when playing poker. Coming up with a high pair in both poker or video poker may not get you the win, so will have to break that pair and go for a higher hand. Holding a pair and then drawing will not get you to win the progressive jackpot at video poker, since you must get a royal flush just to win the biggest payout. While you may lose some money by breaking up a pair and waiting for a royal flush, in the long run, hitting a royal flush will make you forget all your small losses.

• When you can, make sure you have a side bet. Not all games give you a straight shot to the progressive jackpot. Some, like Caribbean stud poker require that you make a separate side bet to get to win the progressive jackpot. If you don’t make a side bet, not even a huge winning hand will get you anywhere close to that jackpot. You may win the prize amount for the hand you won, but definitely not the progressive jackpot.

• Set aside a separate budget when playing for games with a progressive jackpot. This is probably one of the smarter things you will ever do. This is mainly because not all games with progressive jackpots gives out a win everyday. This means you can spend an entire day trying to win that elusive progressive jackpot and still walk away without the big win. Setting aside a budget for progressive games apart from your whole stash will at least ensure that if you do not get to win the jackpot, you will leave the game literally empty-handed.

• Ensure that you are playing with an online casino with a good track record. You’ve won the much-coveted jackpot, so where’s your money? Always play only on gaming websites that you can be sure will pay you what you won fair and square. Playing on a site that establishes it is affiliated with a popular and recognized gambling merchant account or casino merchant account provider is highly advisable, because casino merchant account providers have a thorough screening process to ensure that the online casino is financially stable, and thus able to pay the appropriate winnings of a player.

All these tips were meant to give you a little edge while playing online games, but the best tip of all is very simple: have fun. It’s what these games were intended for in the first place, and it should also be the primary reason why you’re playing. It would be, however, a good idea to pick an online casino of good repute to play on. This means picking online casinos that have a good track record of payout to customers, and are affiliated with reputable gambling merchant account or casino merchant account providers, as these sites have met and passed the requirements and standards set by these online payment gateways.

Be Warned About Downloading Movies Today

Friday, March 30th, 2007

For passionate movie followers, watching the next big movie hit is a must, something not to miss out on. It’s a bit like being a sports fan, you know, the ones that put their favorite team as important as their spouse.

With today’s industry growing and blomming like never before, developing an avid passion to watch every movie that comes out can become a full time job.

Hasn’t it happened to you that you watch a movie and you didn’t even realize until a day after you watched it that it was complete rubbish? We all have been there. You just want to entertain yourself with a movie and when you finish it you realize that it wasn’t at all what you expected to be.

This holds true specially when you’re downloading movies online. Depending on your internet connection, it may take a couple of hours to download a full movie. You want to make sure that before you download it, it’s something that will be worth the watch and you’ll want to keep in your computer (specially since you’ll be able to watch it over again).

You will want to read some reviews from sources you can trust, ask about the movie to your friends to see what they think, and only after you are sure that you’re getting what you want, you actually start downloading it.

Personally, I love watching over and over a good movie. I like the mystery, to really understand what is going on, what the characters are subcomunicating, what were they thinking and why they did what they did. It’s about getting the film on the next level. This is why I love to download movies online. It gives the opportunity to watch it as many times as I want.

Downloading movies is all about choosing the right movie. This makes the difference between loving or hating the internet as a movie download resource.

In general, technology is making it easier on movie fans to find and download movies from the comfort of their own homes.

There are legal sources online were you can download movies, burn them into a DVD and play them on your big screen tv.

I highly recommend downloading movies from a legal source, to avoid pains like downloading bogus files and getting a virus among other things.

When you do this the smart way, you save yourself time and peace of mind, and you’ll discover the pleasure of downloading movies online.

All Those Megapixels - A Digital Camera Resolution Comparison

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Are you thinking of buying a new digital camera? Are you confused by all the choices in camera resolution? Is the megapixel rating the most important factor you should consider in buying a digital camera? How many megapixels are enough? Is there such a thing as too many megapixels? How do megapixels and digital camera resolution compare to film camera resolution?

To put it simply, resolution is the amount of detail that your digital camera records of an image. A digital image is made up of pixels. For digital cameras, the number of pixels is measured just like your computer monitor. As digital camera resolutions have gotten higher, w will e now multiply the horizontal and vertical values for one total value, which is usually rounded out to the megapixel count. Some of the first digital cameras had resolution of 480 x 640 pixels. This is the same number of pixels in the computer monitor standard VGA. Multiplying 480 x 640 would end up with a resolution of about .3 megapixels. This was touted by the digital camera industry as photo-quality, but it is far from it. Most web cams support this resolution.

Next up in computer monitor resolution is SVGA or 600 x 800. This works out to about .5 megapixels. Still not there.

Currently, one of the most popular computer monitor settings is 1024𝟀. This is still less than one megapixel, it is also the resolution that we first saw consumer digital cameras at. This is also a common resolution for video projectors. The one megapixel digital cameras have a resolution of 1280 by 960. If you were to make a 4 x 6 print from an image this size, it might compare in quality to that of an old 110 camera, or APS camera.

When we reach the two megapixel mark, or resolution of 1600 x 1200, you can get a fairly nice print. This gives you a print size of 4 x 6 at not quite 300 dpi. However, when you make a photographic print much larger than 4 x 6, you’ll be able to see the individual pixels or notice the lack of detail.

In a digital photographic print, 300 dots per inch is considered the standard for small prints. Some photographic printers print at less than 250 dpi. Some a little bit more than 300 dpi. While there is little bit of leeway here, digital prints at 300 dpi will appear to have the same detail that a print made from a 35mm negative would if it were printed traditionally. This is especially important for smaller print sizes that will be viewed close-up. As we go to larger print sizes, the distance the print will be viewed from is also likely to increase. From a farther distance the eye cannot see the detail, and so the print still looks good.

A 3 megapixel camera will have a resolution of about 2048 x 1536. It is still far below that of good 35mm negative. It is not till we reach a little bit over five megapixels that digital starts to compare to 35mm in detail. A 5.3 megapixel camera has a resolution of about 3008 x 1960.

A good six megapixel camera can surpass 35mm quality in detail. This works out to just about 300 dpi in an 8 x 10 print. Since 35mm has been accepted level of quality for so long, this is the resolution I recommend people start looking at for a digital camera. The six megapixel camera will provide the same level of quality (maybe a little bit better) that your old 35mm camera gave you. A 6.3 megapixel camera has a resolution of about 3088 x 2056.

What about seven and eight megapixel cameras? An eight megapixel camera approaches the quality of the professional medium format camera. It is interesting to point out that many of the seven megapixel cameras came out after the eight megapixel cameras were introduced. It has been suggested, the reason for this is because the first generation of eight megapixel point-and-shoot cameras had a problem with noise. This was caused the small sensors used in digital point-and-shoot cameras. This problem is largely overcome now, and did not apply to the larger digital single lens reflexes. While an eight megapixel camera will provide a little bit extra information in case you want to crop up in a, since few people ever make a print larger than 8 x 10, much of this extra information is wasted. I do not recommend that the average person purchase a digital camera resolution higher than eight megapixels.

Digital cameras with resolutions of 10 to 13 megapixels are well in the quality range of good 120mm professional cameras. They create huge file sizes that require significant computer resources to work with. A 13 megapixel camera will only get approximately 55 images on a 1 GB memory card in RAW format. This makes saving and archiving images more expensive and time-consuming. There are professional digital camera systems with resolutions of 20,40, and even a hundred megapixels. Only a professional would have need of images with this high a resolution.

To summarize, I suggest that almost anybody will be happy with a camera with a six megapixel resolution. If you’re really on a budget you can go down as low as five megapixels and still have detailed pictures at the sizes you’re most likely to have prints made. If you’re an advanced shooter or hobbyist you’ll enjoy the extra room that an eight megapixel camera will give you. If you’re a professional, you need a camera resolution appropriate to the job at hand.

However, when you make a photographic print much larger than 4 x 6, you′ll be able to see the individual pixels or notice the lack of detail.

Finding Gambling Sites Online The Easy Way

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

In order to find a good online gambling site it is very important to do the appropriate amount of research. You never want to jump into anything with a gambling site without first knowing everything there is about the site. You can find this information in a couple of different ways.

First off, you will want to find the sites that interest you and make a list of them. By doing this you will ensure yourself of not forgetting any sites that may have potential. From here you will want to visit each site and make notes on what you like and what you do not like about each one. This is much easier than trying to remember which site offered what. If you rely on your memory you may end up missing out on something important in the end. After this option, you will want to narrow your search down to three sites that you really like. This will allow you to better concentrate on making a good decision.

When visiting each site to detailed notes about security and customer service. These are two areas that may be deal breakers in the end. Security and customer service are two areas that you cannot afford to skimp on.
After visiting the sites you will then want to go elsewhere on the internet and find reviews of each one. This way you will be able to get an unbiased opinion from experienced players. Message boards are often a good place to find information about these sites. Members will collaborate to talk about everything from new games to security issues that they are concerned with. You must not take everything you read as the gospel, but some of it should be looked into.

Finding an online gambling site does not have to be difficult. Just remember to do your research and you will have no problems.

Photography A - Z the Easy Way: P - Portraits

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Taking portraits can be fun but if you want to get the best results you need a few pointers. Otherwise your images will end up uninteresting and jaded. Many people either snap haphazardly without any thought or take the whole process far too seriously.

Try and think about the following:

What type of portrait you want?: formal, candid, informal, close up, groups – try and plan beforehand

What pose are you looking for?: relaxed, serious, funny – having pictures taken can be nerve wracking – put your subject at ease and tell THEM what you want them to do (after discussing their own desires beforehand, if appropriate)

Consider a prop: people are more natural and relaxed when doing something with their hands – give them a flower or newspaper or something else to hold – even get them to position the item in different ways

Talk to your subject: distract them and make them feel more relaxed

What lighting do you want?: studio flash, natural light, a candle? – choose the appropriate lighting and use reflectors to remove or lessen shadows

Watch the background: make the background appropriate to your subject and get rid of all the clutter

Choose the correct lens / zoom: wide-angle lenses and telephotos will give an unnatural appearance to your model – use 90 – 130mm (35mm film equivalent)

Take lots of images: you will always get people with their eyes closed or looking different to what you intended – by taking lots of pictures you will heighten your chances of success

Know your equipment: make sure you know how to change settings on your equipment - fumbling around does NOT inspire confidence in models!
