Ukulele Tab: Learn To Play Christian Favorite Song Amazing Grace

Monday, May 29th, 2006

Ukulele is a fantastic little instrument. You can play chords on it as you sing but you can even play melodies. With the help of ukulele tab notation you can learn to play Amazing Grace in a few minutes. Let’s start!

Amazing Grace is one of the most well-known Christian hymns. The words were written by John Newton. Here are the lyrics to the first verse:

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind, but now I see

You don′t need to know sheet music notation on your ukulele. Instead we will use a form of notation known as ukulele tab.

The ukulele tab notation I will use is my own form of tabs that are readable on article sites. You will find the more common ukulele tab notation on my own site with ukulele tab and free sheet music.

When you hold your ukulele in playing position you will have the first string nearest your feet. It is the string with the highest pitch and it is usually an A.

Here comes an example on how to ukulele tab:

01 11 31 11 01

The first digit in the pair tells you what fret to press down. The second digit what string to play. 01 means that you play the first string without pressing down a left hand finger. In other words you play on the open first string.

11 means that you press down a left hand finger on the first fret on the first string and play. Now you can play the easy ukulele tab above.

Let’s play the first part of Amazing Grace:

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound

03 12 01 12 01 32 12 23 03

03 means that you play the third open string. Play the notes with your right hand thumb or in some other way you like.

The length of the notes is not indicated with this type of ukulele tab notation. I guess you will find out how to play the notes by your self.

Let’s play the next line:

That saved a wretch like me!

03 12 01 12 01 32 01 31

What left hand finger should you use when you play?

Even if it can be a little bit difficult at first I suggest that you play the notes on the first fret with your first finger, the notes on the second fret with your long finger and the notes on your third fret with your ring finger.

Of course, you can play all notes with your first finger but when your left hand fingers get used to playing the way I suggested it will actually become easier to find the right notes.

The next ukulele tab comes here:

I once was lost, but now am found

01 31 01 12 01 32 12 23 03

You know how to read this ukulele tab by now so I don’t need to help you!

The last line with lyrics and ukulele tab follows:

Was blind, but now I see

03 12 01 12 01 32 12

Now the melody is complete and you can play Amazing Grace with ukulele tab!

This melody can be played on guitar too with the use of the above ukulele tab notation! The first three strings on a guitar are tuned in the same way but in a different pitch.

May I recommend you to take one ukulele tab line at a time and practice it until you know the whole song by heart. It is fun to have a repertoire with songs to play anywhere and anytime!

Poems of Nature

Monday, May 29th, 2006

Nature
The sky is gray
On this late summer day
As the sun imbues
Its various hues
Upon the scene.
A sight to be seen,
A beauty to behold,
A thousand campfire stories to be told.

With the settling twilight
And the settling night
Comes the settling fog
About every log,
Every limb
As the light continues to dim.

Yet, do you hear it?
Yes, a kindred spirit,
As it beckons
To us, Nature′s patrons,
Who think deep thoughts of
All things up above
And things all around
And adventures upon which to bound.
Well then,
Let’s begin,
Before this great night can end!

Nature II
As I continue to tread
The well-worn path between the trees,
Many thoughts swim in my head
Of the refreshing beauties
Of the crisp, clean air
Playing in my hair,
The rainbow
That has begun to show
Over the tips of the trees,
The birds’ outspoken symphonies,
And the sun-rays that warm my face
As I pass each open, sun-lit space.

Nature has its own music,
Its own specially tuned melody.
I never want to lose it,
For what it means to me,
I can never fully express,
Even as my feelings well up in my chest.
It is here in the forest,
This place of nature and spirit,
That I feel blessed,
And ignore the old habit
Of humankind
To mind
Its own business
And forget about the wilderness.

Come friend,
Let’s walk this path again,
Before this great day can end!

Nature III
In that sky so immense,
I see clouds something dense,
Holding tight and tense,
Ready to drop their contents,
In order to rinse
And cleanse
All this poetic nonsense.
Yes, I’m guilty of many sins.

On this grayest of days,
While watching the lightning blaze,
I′m pondering my all too human ways,
Hoping to soon see hopeful sun rays,
To brighten my own soul’s shadowy grays.

I now realize,
That until our demise,
That which is good and right
In God’s sight
Our nature often defies
And denies.

Nonetheless,
Let me not digress,
For I hope and work for the best,
And I must never rest,
For God promises
Salvation and nothing less
To those who would in Him believe
And their own sinner state quickly leave.
Now, as we find God’s love strong and true,
We can begin our adventures anew,
And enjoy nature once again,
Before this great day can end!

Nature IV
As I walk down the glistening beach,
I watch the waves break on the shore.
All nature’s joy seems within reach,
And I enjoy it all the more.

Many are the sights that I behold:
Lots of people fishing on the pier,
Lovers whose whispers will go untold,
And young swimmers who have no fear!

Yet, even as I watch the birds,
And they dive in to look for fish,
I realize that even these words
Can’t properly describe all this!

Nonetheless, the great tide of life
Still continues to ebb and flow.
Live by faith, for all of our strife
Will be solved by God, not what we know.

Now then, let’s begin this journey again!
Let us walk down the beach hand in hand,
Until the afternoon tide comes in,
And it overtakes us walking in the sand!

The above nature poems were excerpted from the author’s Heaven on Earth. This online book of poetry is available in PDF format as a free download at

Art Collecting Tips for Profit and Pleasure (A Six-Part Series): Part 5 - Art Conservation 101

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

After you′ve spent precious time and resources building up an art collection, it
would be a shame to have its value depreciate because of a lack if knowledge of
proper care and conservation for works of art. Some ageing is natural and
acceptable to a certain degree, but deterioration or damage due to negligence is
not, especially when it can be avoided.

You’ve probably seen what humidity, light and mold can do to photo prints and film.
The same environmental conditions which inflict this kind of damage threatens your
art pieces. In fact, with the worsening environment, art works are more in danger
than ever before. Even modern lifestyles pose a threat. Have you noticed how art
galleries and museums discourage the use of flash cameras and other artificial light
sources in the presence of their exhibits?

As the curator of your own collection, you would be well-advised to protect your art
pieces from the following hazards:

Pollution

Dust, dirt, human bodily fluids and oils (such as perspiration) and acids are
corrosive and discoloring to art. The first three elements are obvious, but where do
acids come from? These can be found in household cleaners, air fresheners,
chemicals found in furniture, carpets, curtains, appliances, packaging and even the
air. Direct skin contact is also damaging to art, which is why handling art works with
bare hands should be avoided.

Humidity

This may be good for the skin but the same cannot be said to be true for art.
Humidity, moisture or dampness cultivates mold and causes foxing, or brown
spotting on the art. Storerooms are typically humid and poorly-ventilated, the
perfect breeding ground for these evils, as well as vermin like silverfish and
cockroaches. Even paintings and prints displayed on walls can be destroyed by the
wormholes or worm tracks of silverfish. Check any art on display regularly for any
potential problems.

Heat

A very dry environment can also be damaging to art. Constant humidity of less than
40% can make art works, especially paper or textile-based ones, brittle and very
fragile. Humidity should range from 40% to 60%. Modern living environments in
cooler climates widely use central heating or radiators which may make conditions
far too dry for delicate art. To minimize the problem, try placing bowls of water on
radiators.

Radical fluctuations in temperature can cause items to expand and contract. Art
should preferably be kept at a constant temperature, just like in special exhibition
rooms in museums.

Light

Art cannot be appreciated without light but too much light is detrimental to art, as
the UV found in both natural and artificial light fades colors and details.

Protective Options

So what can you do to protect your art collection?

You can try to keep your art pieces in a relatively pollutant-free, temperature, light
and humidity-controlled environment. This may involve:

purchasing and installing special boxes, chests, cabinets or
folders
designating a special purpose-built room or area for your
collection
renting specialized storage space designed for housing delicate
art

Some protective options, such a metal cabinets, are rather ugly, but they will protect
your valuable items more effectively than, say, wood. Not all materials are equal;
acrylic plastic is preferred to glass, and acid-free paper is better than normal paper.
You’ll find some examples here:

home-museum.com/How-To-Arts/how-to_contents.htm

The variables can be confusing, so seek the advice of an art specialist or archiving
expert to get started on the right foot.

If you keep your lovely art works safely tucked away under lock and key, you will not
have the pleasure of displaying and admiring them. That would be like having the
cake and not being able to eat it. Find a balance that suits your requirements.

The History Of The Pocket Cam

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

Just minutes before event number seven of the WSOP a player at my table mentioned something about the thousands of players and spectators in the Rio Amazon Room. I made comment “That none of this would be here if it were not for the invention of the Pocket Cam”. Everyone at table number 108 totally agreed.

I remember watching my first televised poker event in 1999 on a secondary sports channel. With three players left and it looked as if they were playing in an office with bright fluorescent lighting and no spectators. They showed every hand dealt and one of the players was reading a book while playing. It was the most boring poker event I ever witnessed.

Thanks to Henry Orenstein, patent holder of the pocket com, poker became interactive and exciting. Now televised poker is a futuristic game show where spectators at home can play along and make decisions as the hands develop. The pocket cam makes poker look easy and takes the guess work out of what cards the opponent holds. But the real clincher is when they pour all those millions of dollars on the table when only two players are left. Show me any interactive televised show with millions in cash, a game with no physical abilities, a place to learn and play the game online, and I will show you why poker keeps growing online and in every casino or card room.

As new comers to poker learned online from their own home, they could not wait to visit Las Vegas or their nearest live poker room. Over the past three years I watched all the major casinos in Las Vegas remove slot machines to make room for a new poker room or enlarge an existing poker rooms. Now if you say you are a “Dealer″ in Las Vegas it’s assumed you deal America’s favorite pastime. But what really made me realize how far this game grew is when I saw more poker magazines publications than poker tables in the card room. Every magazine was loaded with online poker advertisements: Professional’s explaining how they learned or enhanced their game by playing online.

Nobody knew how big the game of poker actually became in the United States until the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was passed and signed by the President October 2007. Bill Frist (Former Rep Senate Majority Leader) who was instrumental in the passage of the UIGEA by attaching this bill to the Port Security Act. The Port Security Bill was a bill that had to pass. Unfortunately, Bill Frist underestimated how big online poker became and is no longer in politics. Jim Leach (Former Rep Congressman) who designed the UIGEA also underestimated and was not re-elected. Neither of them had any idea on how many millions of poker players they upset and many of them joined the Poker Players Alliance and made their voice heard in Washington DC.

I personally have many friends who are non poker players and they do not understand why or how the game became so big. Most non poker players consider it pure luck and associated luck with gambling. They don’t understand the skill of the game and it’s so much more than just playing the cards in your hand, like many beginners of poker play. For years they told me it’s a fad and all fads come and go. I disagree.

Poker is a game of skills that a non poker player does not understand. You only get better as you play. When you get better you never give it up. And every time I see a televised poker show I am sure that there is somebody else out there watching who will be lured into the game.

Seven Reasons Why You Should Play Texas Hold’em Poker

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

Everybody loves Texas Hold’em poker, but why? What is it about this card game that attracts so many different kinds of people? Texas Hold’em is game of opportunity. It’s a combination of skill and chance. If you’ve yet to embrace the worldwide poker craze, here are seven reasons why you should play Texas Hold’em.

1. Entertainment

Playing Texas Hold’em is pure entertainment. A poker game is packed with emotions and extremes. A player could me collecting chips like there’s no tomorrow, and the next minute, they could be breaking down after a bad call. Watching and participating in such a nerve racking exercise, you’re virtually guaranteed a good time.

2. Camaraderie

When you’re playing Texas Hold’em, even in an online atmosphere, you can’t help but feel a sense of camaraderie with the players around you. Poker is psychological warfare, and head games bring people together. As everyone spends time figuring each other out, a unique social atmosphere is created. Every player shares in the drama at the table. It’s fun way to interact.

3. Competition

Texas Hold’em is one of the most competitive casino games you can play. There are players who play loose and players who play tight. Some players will try to bully you out of a hand, while others prefer a more cautious approach. Everybody wants to win, and typically the stakes are high. For people who love to compete, poker is the perfect outlet.

4. Education

Texas Hold’em is an easy game to learn, but a difficult game to master. There are websites all over the Internet that will teach you how to play the game. If you’re a beginner, you need to learn the rules of the game. If you’re an intermediate player, you’re always looking to gain experience, so you know how to make the right call in specific scenarios. For poker experts, practice makes perfect. Even the best players continue to hone their skills on a daily basis, in order to stay sharp, and gauge the erratic play of all the newbies hitting the scene.

5. Money

If you put cash down to play, you want to win it back, and then some. Televised poker tournaments have people all around the world seeing green. Every year it seems, an amateur player qualifies for the World Series of Poker, makes a run, and ends up being a millionaire. Poker is the new lottery. The more people get interested in the game, the more money is for grabs. Get in on the action, but make sure you know what your doing before you put your money on the line.

6. People Watching

The unique social atmosphere that a Texas Hold’em game creates is very conducive to people watching, even when those people aren’t right in front of you. In Hold’em, players are faced with a constant stream of decisions and pressures. Watching the reactions of other players in these crunch-time situations, is critical to understanding the game. But its interesting to ponder what motivates other people, and how different personalities approach the same game.

7. Probabilities (Testing Fate)

Even with all the practice in the world, there’s always more to Texas Hold’em than pure skill. Poker players love probabilities. They love to test fate. In Texas Hold’em you could be one card away from total domination or embarrassing defeat. If you like to calculate and play the odds, Texas Hold’em will keep you engaged.

These are only a few reasons why Texas Hold’em poker is such a global sensation. The best way to discover what makes Texas Hold’em so appealing is to experience the game yourself.

Amazing Lottery Secrets - Just the Facts!

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

When it comes to Lottery Secrets, we’ve discovered amazing and powerful
information, that we feel anyone who plays their respective lottery should
be aware of. Did you know that the greatest percentage of lottery players
choose to “quick pick” their numbers?

If you knew this bit of information you might want to reconsider. 80% of
lottery players choose the quick pick method. This is where you let the
lottery machine choose your numbers. That leaves 20% of lottery players
selecting their own sets of numbers to play.

Here’s where it becomes interesting, when the lotteries were asked:
“What is the percentage of quick pick wins in relation to player selected
wins?” and they said without hesitation 50/50.

For more information: http:wealthsmith.com/Lottery.htm

So, if the 80% quick pick wins 50% of the time, and the 20% player
selected, wins 50% of the time, which group would you have the
better odds of winning?

You see, knowing more about how things work can make your outcome
more favorable. Did you know that the odds of a set of lottery numbers
repeating themselves is astronomically improbable. Wouldn’t it be to your
advantage to know if the numbers you hand select has ever been played?

Did you know the number of times a lottery number set delivers so many
odd numbers vs even numbers could give you an advantage? There is
literally an enormous amount of undisputable evidence and facts that can
make playing and winning your lottery more possible for you.

For more information: http:wealthsmith.com/Lottery.htm

Knowing what numbers appear more often and which bonus ball has hit
more often can be very enlightening. There are other interesting facts that
are considered and played with great success. For instance, if a number
has appeared in a number of recent drawings so many times, it will grow
cold after that number of times. You certainly would want to know that
bit of information.

Do you play in a small group of friends or family? This can better your
odds considerably with a little insider information. No, we don’t profess to
work for the lottery, just that by playing in a group and selecting key numbers
can almost assure your group of a win every time.

Powerball is a multi-state lottery that is soon to make changes in their lottery
game. To entice their players even more, they will soon be making some
interesting changes. They will be adding 2 more regular ball numbers, so
the total regular ball numbers will be 55. They are also increasing the amount
that they will pay if you hit just the 5 regular numbers and miss the red or
Powerball bonus number. If you hit just the 5 regular numbers it will pay
$200,000, this used to be only $100,000. To take this a step further, if you
chose the “Powerplay” option which multiplies you winnings by as little as
2 times or as much as 5 times, you can now win as much as $1,000,000
by hitting just the 5 regular numbers and missing the bonus ball number.
That’s pretty cool! 5 out of 6 and it can win you a cool million dollars.

For more information: http:wealthsmith.com/Lottery.htm

These changes with the Powerball Game came about when the lottery board
saw back in March of 2005 that too many jackpot winners were happening too
close together. This was not allowing the jackpot to grow and reducing the
lottery’s revenue when the jackpot wasn’t large enough to take in more players.
Think it could be, more players are discovering “lottery secrets”?

Obviously, the more the jackpot grows, the more people will play, but now with
the new changes soon to take effect, the possibilities of hitting a million dollar
pot on any given draw will increase playing on a more consistent basis. Overall,
the amount of players will actually increase regardless of the jackpot total, smart
thinking of someone’s part, wouldn’t you say?

Having constantly updated statistics available can make a significant difference
in your lottery playing experience, playing without it can leave you, well, where
you been so far, still wishing for a big win. Lotteries are a game of chance with
incredible odds in their favor, reducing those odds with facts and history is giving
you a much greater chance at winning the cash you hope to find.

How to Choose a Psychic - Part 1

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Today psychics are also called many things including clairvoyant, spiritualist, and medium. They are everywhere from telephone hot-lines to the Web to the Phone book. How do you know who is a con artist and who is the real thing? This article will give you some guidance and a few good practical tips!

You may want to consult a psychic for fun, for some guidance, out of curiosity or even to tell you what the future of your life will be. Psychic advisors may have many different qualifications including anything from a masters degree in psychology to simply a long list of satisfied clients. The first thing to do when choosing a psychic is to decide on your reasons for consulting one. There many types of them and knowing what you want to find out from them will help narrow your choices.

For instance:

I want to know if I get married, will it work out?
Is my relative who passed away watching over me?
What should my next career move be?

The point is, think about what you want to know before you look around. That will help you pick out the type of tools your ideal psychic should use – tarot cards, “pure” intuition, medium to the afterlife, astrology, runes, numerology, etc. You can also ask your friends and relatives to see what their experiences have been with the different techniques. They may even know of a good psychic!

The best possibility is if you could seek out a well known advisor that has written a book or even been on television. They may cost more, but only the best get published or asked to do readings on TV. You may be able to find them on the Internet and contact them via email. Check out their website and use your gut feeling to see if you might click with them. Check out a few sites and look at their background, experience and prices. Maybe one will click with you!

The next step is to be careful when choosing a psychic and we will review that in Part 2: Things to watch out for when choosing a psychic.

Online Casino Slots

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

What can online casino offer to fans of slot machines? Well, practically everything, that real halls can, plus something more than that. But before we look into online slot machine halls, let’s give a meaning to several notions. “One-handed gangsters” have been divided into two categories called slots and video slots (meaning a slot of a coin-receiver). Classical slots represent three mechanic barrels with a possibility to play on 1-5 lines. Video slots are a video screen 3×5 with the game on 9-30 lines with rich additional bonus possibilities.

One can find both kinds of playing machine in an online casino. From the point of view of the games quantity and their functional possibilities online games do not yield (and to some degree they may exceed) to offline ones. The doubtless leader in the slots quantity and quality is the “Microgaming” software. The downloaded versions suggest up to 180 kinds of different slot machines, classic ones and video slots in about equal parts. The classic slots suggest a game from 1 to 5 lines. There can be up to 10 plays with progressive jackpots which average sums vary from 5 thousand to more than one million dollars. The first 9-line video slots appeared several years ago. The play “Tomb raider” (that is known thanks to the computer game and the film “Lara Croft, tomb plunder”) still holds much favour. Lara’s picture of 4 floors height can even be seen in the company “Microgaming” office. After that 20- and even 30-line video slots appeared. The video slots provide with an opportunity to win free of charge bonus rounds including prize multiplication, additional bonus games, the possibility to risk and double the win, jackpots of hundred thousand dollars. The maximum prize of such games is usually $40-200 thousand. There are of course “wild” and bonus symbols, animation that is all the variety of possibilities for what the players love video slots. Besides, the player can set the quantity of games and then games start will be conducted automatically.

The second place would be rather given to the casino with the soft of the company “Criptologic”. Recently they have concluded a treaty with a popular comics publisher – the company “Marvel” and have already created more than ten video slots with popular comics heroes (we know, for example, such personages as Hulk and Spiderman). All in all, the casino suggests more than 50 classical video slots, covering 9-20 lines with the abundance of possibilities. Another unique possibility, provided for payers of the British casino “William Hill” is the availability of English “fruity” slot-machines that function with an opportunity of “pushing” the drum in order to make it move for a little while giving a player the winning combination. At the moment when I’m writing these lines jackpot on the video slot “Millionaires’ Club” exceeds $3,5 ml., that is twice as much as the previous record for the on-line casino. When you receive a current issue of the journal, the jackpot will either reach the sum of $4 ml. or it will be hit and consequently it will constitute its original sum of $400 thousand.

Such producers of slots as “RTG” and “Playtech” yield a little as to the diversity of slots (but not as to their functionality). There are classical slots and video slots with diverse functions and jackpots including the ones at one million dollar. Only the “Boss Media” out of five provider leaders yields a little its competitors as to the quality of slots, but they too possess video slots, at least for nine lines and without a full abundance of possibilities.

While evaluating slots online, it is necessary to consider such a burning question as the percentage of payment. Unfortunately, in spite of the numerous players’ requests the absolute majority of casinos do not show the laid into the game percentage of payment. However, one can try to estimate it. For example, the casinos with the software from “Microgaming” and “Criptologic” publish monthly common payment percentages, notarized by auditing company PricewaterhouseCoopers. So the average payment percentage of all the slots usually varies in the range of 94-96 %.

As a conclusion, I want to mention that an online casino represents a very wide choice of different kinds of playing machines that do not yield with their functional characteristics to those ones you can see in playing rooms. The pluses of the online playing are more comfort conditions, wide range of stakes, the presence of bonuses that can double your means for playing. Besides, some casinos give the information about payments in pawn and the honesty guarantee that is difficult to see in real world. So, if someone decides to play slots in an online casino (s)he won’t regret it.

Crossing the Rubicon

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Did you ever wonder where a common phrase came from? Crossing the Rubicon is such a phrase. This is what it means today: You have taken a step too far. You are at great risk and you can’t go back.

Under ancient Roman law it was forbidden for any general to cross the Rubicon River and enter Italy proper with a standing army. That was treason.

The Rubicon wasn’t much of a river. It was a small stream but to cross over with an army was a dangerous step. Immediate civil war was the result.

In January 49 BC, Caesar crossed the tiny stream. This is what he said, “Let us go where the omens of the Gods and the crimes of our enemies summon us! THE DIE IS NOW CAST!” See: eyewitnesstohistory.com/caesar.htm

Poker Gambling

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Poker gambling can be a lot of fun and you can win a great amount of money if you are good at poker.
