Tips on Texas Holdem Strategy

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Texas Holdem is a game of perception. If you have a big hand you want your opponents to think you have nothing so you can get more money out of them and if you have nothing you want them to think you have the best hand possible. Well, your position that you are sitting in at the poker table contributes to your overall perception as well. Sometimes it’s a positive contribution and sometimes it’s a negative contribution. So before you make your next bet in a Texas Holdem poker game, you may want to take a look around the table and recognize all the factors before you bet.

On the Button

Being on the button means that you have the dealer button in front of you. Traditionally this is the most powerful position to be in at the table. The reason this position is so powerful is that the person that is on the button is the last player to act after the flop is shown. You can see how this would be an enviable position because you get to see what everyone else is doing before you decide what you are going to do.

Many times a poker player that is on the button will have the opportunity to steal the blinds as well. This happens when there is no action on the table (everyone in front of you has folded) and the only players left in the hand are the player that is on the button and the big and small blinds. In this particular situation, it may be a good idea to test the players in the blind positions by raising on the button. The object of doing this is to have the players in the blind positions fold their hands without seeing the flop. It is good poker strategy to try to steal the blinds whether you are holding a good hand or not. Once again, poker is all about perception.

In the Blinds

If you are in either the big blind position or in the small blind position, you are traditionally called “out of position″. This position is called out of position because it is the weakest position to be in because you are the first to act once the flop is shown. If you are playing a hand while in one of the blind positions just keep in mind that you are the first to act and an experienced poker player will know how to exploit this information.

You can also choose to use the big or small blind positions to your advantage. As mentioned earlier, the blind positions are traditionally the weakest players at the table because they are the first to act once the flop is displayed. Some poker players think differently. Some players think that the first person to act has the first chance to bet and that is a good thing. An aggressive player will take advantage of this opportunity even if they have missed the flop completely.

Hint:

When you are in the blind positions, try to utilize the continuation bet. This is a great tool that experienced poker players use at the right time in order to collect pretty sizable pots. If you are in one of the blinds and a number of people are in the hand but no one has raised the pot, what you would do is raise the pot a significant amount (maybe 3-5 times the big blind) in order to get rid of any of the marginal hands that might still exist. Let’s say you get one or two people that call. Since you are first to act, you would use this to your advantage by placing another significant bet after the flop is displayed. This will immediately get your opponents to think that you have some type of huge hand like two aces or two kings. Usually, if the others hit nothing on the flop they will gracefully lay their hands down. Once again, you can do this with any type of hand because the perception is that your hand is huge.

My Top 3 X-men Girls and Women

Friday, March 31st, 2006

There are so many X-men girls or women who are simply fantastic. Each and every one of them has their own unique mutant power, personality, etc. And so it is a tough call to make! How am I going to rank who is the best or the worst?
But before I evaluate them, I need a list of X-girls and X-women (villains or superheroes). So here are some of the names that came into mind immediately - If she is not in the list below, please don′t kill me!

Storm
Rogue
Shadowcat
Jean Grey
Jubilee
Mystique

Polaris
Emma Frost
Dazzler
Psylocke
Sage
Scarlet Witch

So now that I have a list of potential candidates, it is time to determine how I will rank them accordingly. After burning out many brain cells (I′m not joking), I drew up my own criteria that I would use to evaluate some of girls and women of the X-men.

Side Note:
It is highly recommended that you read my list of criteria below, so that you would know what I am blabbering about.

Character Criteria:

Good (Kick-Ass) Attitude - Be it a super-villain or a superhero, without attitude it makes a character really boring (*yawns*).
Useful Superpower - A character with useless superpower/s should not even be created.
Strong Believer - I feel that it is important to strongly believe in something and fight for your beliefs. Don′t you?
Able to Relate - If you are unable to relate to the characters, it is really difficult to even like them.

The List
After much comparison, I have finally decided who my top 3 X-men Girls are (*Drum rolls please*):

1st: Mystique
2nd: Rogue
3rd: Jean Grey

So why choose them and not others? My X-men girls were ranked according to the number of points they have scored for their attitude, superpower, etc. But don’t let me bore you with the math. And so now let me give you a brief summary on how or why they’re chosen. Follow me please …

Mystique is the ultimate winner because she scored a lot of points in criteria such as “Good (Kick-Ass) Attitude” and “Useful Superpower”. I feel that her shape-shifting abilities commonly known as morphing ability is really something so unique (psst … I always secretly wished I could morph into anyone).
The only thing about Mystique that confuses me is her complicated history. But her background is not a concern here, so that will not be taken into consideration.

Whereas for Rogue, there seem to be this connection that allows me to understand and empathize with what she is going through at most stages of her life. Therefore, she scores a lot of points for “Able to Relate” and also “Useful Superpower”. Don’t you wish you can just suck the life out of the person you disliked most? - *Warning* No violence encouraged!

Lastly, Jean Grey just made it into the last entry on my top list. Initially, I felt that her superpower (before she became the phoenix) was not really outstanding or probably seems quite common among mutants. But I shall evaluate as she is now with her new unleashed superpower. Naturally, she scores some points in “Useful Superpower” criterion.

But she scored exceptionally well in the “Strong Believer” criterion because I admired how she has never stopped loving Cyclops. Even though, I secretly wished she get together with Wolverine or Archangel instead.

So there you are … My very own top 3 list of X-men Girls and Women!

Forgotten Men Boarding

Friday, March 31st, 2006

My father was wrong.

The old train station with its turnstile and freight yard was on the other side of Station Road South of Route 530.

I found it after taking a trip to the county Historical society. Years ago, I was looking for it on the other side near the power Transformers with my friend Dave. Dave is full of Bull, but that is because he is Sitting Bull’s Great Great something Grandson. But on that day his latent Suburban Shaman skills was no use in finding the turnstile.

So fourteen years later, I park the truck on the sand road I had used in High School to get into the back of the shopping Center the fun way. I hiked up the road along one side of the three tracks that merged at this spot. Plus the donkey cart track that went into my neighborhood to remove the clay from the pits. I found a small triangle island of brush that had an indention. In the hole I found a burned beam and many other artifacts. An old ornate iron heating vent, crockery, straight edge razor, electrical components, an old burner to a gas grill was rusted down into a abstract weathervane, and many Smirnoff Bottles.

Yes there was older bottles, including one travel size Listerine bottle amongst others. But the regular deposit of Smirnoff Bottles is what struck me. Granted they are not the ones I gathered and placed into the truck later, but they were carried within my head.

See years ago we had our token soul who lived on the tracks. He lived anywhere he could. After inheriting his father’s successful Automobile Repair Shop, he lost his spirit. Jealous siblings burned it down soon after he took the keys. But he was a damn good mechanic. In fact that is how he gained many residences for the night. He would fix anything for the price of some dry concrete in your basement and a little for a taste.

I can no tell you if he had this problem before the fire. I can not say if it was brought on by the fire’s close proximity to his father’s death. I can not reason a man’s life that was lost on himself for decades before I met him. But many did without ever introducing themselves to him. But I knew him. In fact, I drank with him a few times when I was fourteen from the same bottle. Not many times, but I spoke to him often. He was one of the few regular faces you can find in a rural town separated by more than the miles in between the houses.

So I was starring around the perimeter of the hole that was the last resting spot of the remnants of the freight house, looking at slices of the intervals of Bill’s life. The financial successful years was closer to the hole when he was drinking Smirnoff. Just letting them fall from his lap with ease. Trim years could be seen by Hiram Walker bottles thrown a little further out with disgust. Then the tough times can be ascertained by the Boomerang Bottles thrown almost into the road. Bill’s life could be determined in much the same ways one determines the age of a tree and it’s own growing history.

Maybe, he was a ring for a decade. But then again, there always been forgotten men. So it may be easily argued Bill may be a ring for our species.

He was from the other side of the tracks. But those tracks stop going anywhere years ago. Like many people with all the potential and talent do too often get lost in this elbow grease and heel ruled society. He sat in the ruins of this freight yard that was lost in the brush. Three lines going to fabulous places converged in this spot. His dreams could of taken three different courses, three different journeys, three different paths. But the only destination for this freight yard was into this hole.

In the silence of the Pines, lay Bill. He was found in someones basement after repairing a car one night. He was not laid in this hole he sat in remembering a life that was waiting for the train to come at this ghost station. I can not tell with any certainty, where he is buried. But after sixteen years after his death, his presence was seen and felt around that hole.

As you went through the switch to travel from country to country, you find yourself at my station. Here a lone passenger awaits your companionship . Silently Bill has entered your thoughts. Togethor you can travel the world through this electric railway that travels to the mysterious orient with the palaces of Baghdad, lets off at the seas Sinbad sailed from, passes under Carpathian peaks, goes between the Great Divide, dips past the Dead Sea, and cuts through the Subcontinent. For he is willing to travel anywhere for a space. Then there will come a time that you will pass from each other, which is ok. For some one else will read this tale of a man and carry on with Bill through his Journey.

Survivor Lawyer in Trouble with the Law?

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

Angarita, a 28-year old attorney, was born on April 20, 1978 in South America. He came to the United States to study at the University of California where he acquired his Bachelor of Arts degree. Eventually, he attended Harvard School of Law where he got his Juris Doctor Degree. He was also a member of the Harvard Boxing Club where he honed his interest in boxing, as well as other sports activities like running, yoga, basketball and weightlifting. Prior to his becoming an attorney, he worked as a tutor, and an operations director. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California, and works as a freelance lawyer. In the future, he aspires to put up his own educational consulting company.

According to the complaint, Angarita “used threats and violence to deter and prevent” officers from doing their jobs. His misconduct was apparently an upshot of his dispute with his girlfriend after a Survivor viewing party, which now translates to charges with two counts of offenses of resisting arrest, one felony count of battery with injury to an officer and an offense for possession of marijuana.

In TV world, Angarita remains as one of Moto tribe’s strongest players on Survivor, able to control and lead in certain situations. But in real life, his chances of survival in court appear to be slim. He is scheduled to return to the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday, March 14, 2007. Will Angarita be able to remain in the game? Stay glued and catch Survivor: Fiji on Thursdays at 8:00 PM on ET/PT on the CBS network.

Embarrassing Moments - Reggie and the Train

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

The very, very worst embarrassing travel moment was related to me by a young man we were dining with some years ago. His name was Reggie and he bore a striking resemblance to Tommy Steele, the fifties musical star, and the twinkle in his eyes always led me to wonder whether his story was true, but he swore to me on his poodle’s life he was telling me the truth.

Reg worked for a merchant bank in the City and commuted from Sussex each day. Most days his journey went without incident but on this particular Friday Reggie’s wife was expecting several for dinner and he had been warned not to return home at all if he missed his train.

Reg had spent most of a liquid lunch break in the pub and had consumed rather too many pints of ale accompanied by a packet of cheese flavored crisps, two bags of peanuts and a portion of tortilla chips dipped in extra hot and spicy chili sauce.

His immediate superior at the bank had called him into his office just as he was on his way out of the door to catch his train. By the time Reg had escaped from his boss’s office, the queue for the elevator had grown to gargantuan proportions so he decided to attempt the staircase marathon.

Reg bounded down sixteen flights of stairs and arrived in the lobby out of breath and feeling a slight discomfort in his bowels. He straightened his tie, adjusted his bowler hat and proceeded to power walk through the rush hour crowds, against the clock.

He was halfway to the train station when he experienced a colonic aberration which brought him to a dead halt, causing several shoppers to collide with him and a dozen plastic shopping bags to scatter the pavement with a variety of groceries. A horrified Reg inched his way to the doorway of the nearest Gents Outfitters, ignoring the abuse now being hurled at him by the owners of the scattered groceries and hoping to slide into the shop without drawing too much attention to himself or indeed to his now nasty poo smelling trousers.

‘Can I help you Sir?’ asked an unctuous salesman dressed in cashmere and obviously completely poo free tailored suit.

‘Pair of dark grey trousers, 34 inch waist, 32 inch leg, any price, within two minutes please,’ stuttered Reg desperately.

‘Certainly, Sir, would you come this way to the fitting rooms?’‘

No, just pack them quickly, or I shall miss my train, hurry up man!’

Mr Cashmere Suit wandered over to the rails, selected a pair of trousers, slowly put them into a large and elegant carrier bag, and then began to chat with his junior assistant. Reg was by now wild with indignation and humiliation as several customers began to edge their way down the counter to escape the unpleasant aroma wafting from the general region of Reggie’s underpants.

When the Cashmere suit finally arrived back at the counter, Reggie grabbed the bag, paid the extortionate bill without waiting for his change, and ran headlong out of the shop before he could encounter anyone he knew. Trying to ignore the unpleasant trickling sensation coursing down his right leg, Reg threw himself through the barriers at the train station and pounced through the train doors, red faced and perspiring.

He thankfully bolted himself into the nearest toilet and leaned gratefully against the wall, praying the train would leave the station on time. At last Reggie’s prayers were answered, the train left the station exactly forty seconds later and poor old Reg was finally able to peel his disgusting and evil smelling trousers and underpants off. He waited for just one minute, until the train was safely away from the platform, then he rolled the trousers and underpants up into a foul smelling parcel and expertly threw them out of the window, across a grassy bank and into a field.

Reg cleaned himself up as best he could manage in such a small space, and then reached for his carrier bag. Inside was a ladies pink angora cardigan featuring pink pearl buttons.

Reg gagged in panic and horror. He glared at the cardigan and rummaged in the carrier bag again, hoping to find his trousers miraculously nestling beneath the cardboard lining on the bottom. Nothing. Reg sat down upon the toilet and tried to think what he could do.

He removed his jacket and tried to fashion a pair of trousers out of it by pushing his legs through the sleeves and buttoning the jacket down the front but he could not cover enough of his modesty with the meager four buttons available; then he nearly knocked himself out on the wash basin when he overbalanced trying to get his legs back out again.

He fashioned a diaper out of his shirt and then tried the whole ensemble on again, wearing his jacket on top and his shirt tied dhoti style in back and like a sarong in front. He looked like an imbecile he decided. There was nothing for it but to ask for help. Gingerly, Reg opened the door of the toilet.

Beyond the next carriage, he could spot a fellow passenger in an otherwise deserted area stowing an overnight bag onto the overhead cradle. Checking the corridor in both directions, he sidled out into the unknown, the sleeves of his diaper trailing behind him. Just as Reggie reached the door of the next carriage, he heard the sickening sound of the toilet door opening. He turned to see an elderly lady entering what Reggie now regarded as his private toilet. She slammed the door and Reggie’s heart sank to his stomach as his last hope of dignity in the face of disaster faded away.

He hurried to the next carriage and grabbed the arm of the man with the overnight bag.‘Please, I beg you; lend me some clothes’ he pleaded, as the man eyed his chalky legs up and down with distaste.

‘Sorry mate, I’m a student, my bag is full of books.’

Reggie crouched in the doorway of the carriage in despair, but then went weak with relief as he spotted the Guard making his way along the corridor.

Reg arrived home twenty minutes late, wearing the bottom half of a British Rail Guards uniform; and a ladies pink cardigan draped casually over one arm. He was fined £250 for traveling on British Rail without a valid ticket.

Importance of Date Selection in Feng Shui

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

How important is date selection in Feng Shui? Date selection is in fact one of the most important factor in Feng Shui. Often, date selection can be considered s a single subject when you learn or study Feng Shui. Without a good date selected for the execution of Feng Shui, your Feng Shui setup might seems to have no effect at all, or worst of all, bad effects. Most of these bad effects are caused by Sui Po or San Sha (3 killings) of the date or time used to activate the Feng Shui setup or changes. Hence if the Feng Shui setup or changes are done on inauspicious date or time, it will likely brings misfortune to him/her.

There are however plenty of date selection methods out there each with its strength and weakness. Just to list a few date selection systems here:

Xuan Kong Da Kua Date Selection
Great Sun Date Selection
Five Elements Date Selection
4 Pillars Date Selection
9 Stars Date Selection
Dong’s Date Selection
Qi Men Dun Jia Date Selection

So under what situations are is date selection required? Generally, people use date selections for all sorts of events including start of new businesses, property developments, business negotiations, house renovations, shifting of beds, setting up Feng Shui changes, burials, etc.

Some Feng Shui masters tend to suggest to their clients the appropriate changes to their home or working environment without suggesting the date and time to perform these changes. So the next time you engage a Feng Shui master to perform an audit, do remember to ask for an auspicious date to maximise the good effects.

Driven by the strong interest in Metaphysics, Ray is consistently exploring into different fields of Metaphysics. These fields include Feng Shui of different schools, BaZi (also known as 4 Pillars), I-Ching (also known as Book of Changes), Qi Men Dun Jia, etc. Ray is also the webmaster of Feng Shui portal, FengShuiCorner.com ( fengshuicorner.com fengshuicorner.com). My Dream Home Theater System

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

Nothing beats having a killer home theater system. Big screen TV with high-definition, surround sound where I can plug in my iPod Nano, the latest DVD technology, video on demand, an Xbox 360, a hookup for my digital camcorder - the list goes on and on. Man, I’d love to have an awesome home theater inside my house. I’d never go outside if I did! And there’s just some much stuff to choose from when it comes to building your own home theater. Seating, systems, design, brand names, video games I could easily spend thousands of dollars creating my dream home theater system. Of course, I don’t have thousands of dollars to spend, but I can still dream about it!

My perfect home theater system would be completely wireless. No cables or cords whatsoever. And it isn’t as far fetched as it sounds. More and more home theater systems are being built and designed to be wireless. That doesn’t just include the home theater itself. That includes other aspects of the home theater like video games, PVRs, DVD players, video cameras and more. Pretty soon, the home theater cable connection won’t even have a cable to connect! Now how awesome is that?

I’d have a big screen HDTV with crystal clear surround sound that would blow my mind. And when I got my home theater installed, up and running, I would plop myself on the couch with a seven-pound bag of popcorn and watch anything and everything that I can. Hey, that’s the point of having a great home theater sound system, to watch stuff! The images would be clear, the sound immaculate and it would all work with only one remote control. Now that’s a great home theater!

Of course, I would have an Xbox 360 or Playstation hooked up to this bad-boy. High-definition games played on a massive, high-def screen? I’d have every video game humanly possible and would completely immerse myself playing them!

A home theater allows you to experience TV rather than just sit and watch it. Imagine watching a hockey game where a hard body check on the boards rattles your bones too. Or watching war movie thinking you’re going to be shot at. Or watching your home-movies on such a screen that it makes you feel like you’re at the event all over again! Or playing the hottest and coolest Xbox or Playstation games! With your own home theater, seating is always at a premium and it’s an experience like no other. And when you want to listen to music, just hook up your stereo system to your home theater. Imagine listening to Dark Side of the Moon on high-definition, high fidelity surround sound speakers? Any music fan will tell you that it would be the ultimate audio experience, and a home theater allows you to enjoy just that!

In the early 1990s, people decided to cocoon, or stay home rather than go out. Not so far after, home theaters got more and more complicated and detailed. Home theaters used to be exclusively for the super-rich, and their home theaters are actually movie theaters right at home, with home theater seating and everything. But with some careful saving and research, anyone can have a great home theater to fit their budget, lifestyle and space. As for me, one day I’ll have an awesome home theater of my own, with a huge TV, amazing sound – all wireless of course! Until then, I’ll just keep on dreaming about it!

Music, games, movies, TV - if it’s digital, then Jeff Saunders is into it. Jeff’s dream is to find the best electronic deals out there and turn his home into a complete multimedia center!

Horse Racing Betting Preview for June’s UK Action

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

June is a high point in the Flat turf season’s roller-coaster journey, and the month’s two major destinations are the two-day Epsom Derby meeting followed by the five days of top-class racing at Royal Ascot.

Now that the wrinkles have been smoothed out of Ascot’s recent construction work, the stage is set for a feast of superb action at the Berkshire course with punters primed to take some big shots at the quality on show while the Derby seems more at home in its recent Saturday slot, rescued from the backwaters of a Wednesday in June and given a perch more in keeping with the modern age.

Epsom lights the blue touch paper with the Group 1 Vodafone Oaks on June 1 and all eyes well be upon Henry Cecil’s Passage Of Time, who looks set to give the master of Warren Place his first fillies’ Classic since Love Divine landed the 2000 Oaks. On the same day the 2006 St Leger hero Sixties Icon is sure to take all the beating in the Coronation Cup, a Group 1 contest over 1m 4f for older horses.

The Vodafone Derby occupies pride of place on June 2 and features a red-hot favourite in the shape of Authorized, a ridiculously easy winner of the Dante Stakes, the Derby’s best trial and barring accidents it is hard to see what can beat the Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained colt. A fluent and easy mover, he has a high cruising speed and more worryingly for all his opponents he also possesses stunning acceleration at the end of his races.

Watching the Derby field stream around Tattenham Corner before launching itself up that long and tilting home straight remains one of Flat racing’s greatest thrills and it seems certain that Authorized will be showing rivals such as Salford Mill and Archipenko, the merest glimpse of his bay flanks before settings sail for classic glory with Frankie Dettori on board.

June 3 is the date and Chantilly the setting for the Prix du Jockey-Club, or French Derby as it is more widely known and the claims of Lawman, a recent Chantilly winner, are hard to resist. Jean-Marie Beguigne’s smart colt may have most to fear from Pascal Bary’s progressive Zambezi Sun, twice a winner at Longchamp this term. Bary boasts an exemplary record in the Jockey Club, winning the race with Celtic Arms, Ragmar, Dream Well, Sulamani and Blue Canari since 1994.

On June 7 the Timeform organization sponsors the Silver Salver Stakes at Haydock in a quiet domestic period while over at Chantilly on June 10 we have the Prix de Diane Hermes, France’s version of the Oaks and this year’s race looks at the mercy of Darjina, the recent last-gasp conqueror of Finsceal Beo in a thrilling finish to the French 1,000 Guineas.

Five of the very best days of Flat racing to be found anywhere in the world begins on June 19 with the first day of Royal Ascot and the day’s highlights are the Group 1 Queen Anne and St James’s Palace Stakes over a mile. In the former contest George Washington could return to action after a barren period at stud to face a stern challenge from Red Evie and Ramonti, the first two home in the Grouѡ Lockinge Stakes and Manduro, France’s fast-developing mile specialist under Andre Fabre’s watchful gaze. In the Coventry Stakes for two-year-olds Amanda Perrett’s Coasting looks the best of the home-trained challenge, trying avenge the defeat of the same stable’s Jo’Burg in the same race twelve months ago while Ireland’s Henrythenavigator has looked something special so far this season.

On June 20 there may well be an epic struggle of the sexes in the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes when Dylan Thomas locks horns with France’s flying filly Mandesha, the latter looked a performer from out of the top-drawer last term and her connections have signaled their intention of seeking success at Royal Ascot, a move that surely spells trouble for her illustrious rivals.

A huge field is sure to go to post for the Royal Hunt Cup on the 20th and this is one of the meeting’s biggest betting heats. Class and courage feature prominently in the make-up of any would-be winner and those two qualities can be found in Pride of Nation and Wise Dennis.

The Ascot Gold Cup is the highlight on June 21 and this looks like offering Yeats the 2006 hero, a second stayers’ crown. Aidan O’Brien’s classy sort was an easy winner twelve months ago and has looked a cut above most of his rivals in this sluggers’ division. Home-based hero Sergeant Cecil has made the switch from handicaps to pattern class with aplomb and looks the one most likely to give Yeats a scrap while Allegreto is the dark horse of the race.

Friday’s action features the Coronation Stakes, a Group1 race over a mile for the fillies while on the Royal meeting’s closing day the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes might well provide Ask with an ideal opportunity for trainer Sir Michael Stoute to annex this prize once more while in the Wokingham Stakes, James Fanshawe’s late-maturing type Zidane looks best to avenge the narrow and luckless defeat of the same stable’s Firenze in last year’s race.

Finally, June’s action climaxes in France with the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on June 24 where there is a whisper for Andre Fabre’s Royal And Regal while in Britain the Northumberland Plate on June 30 brings the curtain down on a superb month’s action with the race for the Pitmen’s Derby at Newcastle. Trainer Paul Cole has won this contest several times in recent seasons and is aiming to do so again with Strategic Mount, the yard’s classy stayer.
