PC Migration

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

When you buy a new computer you would want your new pc to behave very much like the older one. It is then, you would attempt to backup all your files & data and would typically reset the new Pc by manually migrating settings and applications. At certain moments this process is painstaking especially for large corporate users and system administrators. Even an average home user would feel very tedious and be alarmed at the enormous technical process.

Above all, the basic necessity of pc migration is always felt and you have to ensure that all the data in the old PC is brought over to the new one. Because over period of time, you would have installed many applications; customized settings like Outlook Express and many such favorites added in your old pc. Bringing in all the stuff to the brand new Pc is time consuming.

At this point of time you would tend to look for a PC migration tool that would automate the entire process of migration. Fortunately, there have come lots of pc migration tools on the way to rescue. You can schedule and automate these tools to extract and migrate settings, applications. Usually the settings are transferred to the new system via a network (typically) or cable connection. Once this is done the process of migration can happen with just few clicks of the provided options in the software.

StepUp

StepUp is PC migration tool that automates migration. StepUp transfers all data, applications and settings from one computer to another. If you are attempting to migrate either applications or data ,StepUp would be a good source of rescue.

StepUp is an easy to use tool for new PC users that gives them a feel of their old PC without much trouble. You just need to install the software on the destination machine, share the hard drives of the source machine and the app takes care of the rest.

StepUp also supports multiple OS and migrates any version of the applications. Migration takes place in a very simple and a quick fashion thereby reduces frustration .The user can very well migrate IE favorites and cookies along with the other application and settings. StepUp supports multiple connections options and does not require any external disks.

Tattoos; Not Just for Drunken Sailors

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

Tattoos are not new. They have been around longer then recorded history. It just seems I have been noticing them a lot more lately. I don’t know if that was because I started to take an interest or there are a lot more people getting them.

Before I decided to get my tattoo, I did some home work. I don’t come from a background of drunken sailors, so my only thoughts were those dark and dingy, back alley shops you see on late night TV. As most of you reading this can guess, I was wrong. There are clean and reputable tattoo shops even in my town. Some of these tattoo shop are even open during the day light.

I did a lot of internet searching and have learned a lot about tattoos and tattoo shops. Mostly I learned not to prejudge. But some of the things I learned I thought would be worth passing on to my kids and to whoever is deciding to get a tattoo.

Tattoos can put you at risk for contacting many diseases, such as HIV, Hepatitis and even tuberculosis. Tattoos can bring on skin infections such as impetigo, dermatitis and possibly an allergic reaction to the tattoo pigment. To minimize the risk you really need to follow a couple of common sense rules when seeking out a tattoo shop.

Stop by a tattoo shop and look and see if they are using single service equipment. Make sure all needles and tubes are individually packaged, dated, sealed. The person who tattoos should use guidelines created by OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for the handling of body fluids. And of course, the person doing the tattoo should be wearing gloves.

After you get your tattoo, don’t pick or tug on the area of the tattoo. Clean with soap and water not with alcohol. Tattoos are sensitive to sun use SPF 30 or greater to protect them. Also, use antibiotic cream for several days. The body considers tattoos as an open wound.

I hope anybody considering a tattoo or who has a tattoo and is getting another will just take a few precautions.

Remember friends don’t let friend’s get a tattoo while under the influence of alcohol or after just meeting Mr. or Ms. Right.

Geoffrey Chaucer - The Canterbury Tales - The Wife of Bath’s Tale

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

In Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, The Wife of Bath’s Tale, although it has a more serious and moral tone than her prologue, is in many ways a continuation of her prologue, the story and the way in which it is told being dominated by her personality, attitudes, and beliefs. The most obvious connecting link is the common theme - the sovereignty of women in marriage. In her prologue The Wife describes how she has devoted much of her life to living up to her unshakeable decision:

An housbonde I wol have, I wol nat lette,

Which shal be bothe my dettour and my thral (154-5)

She uses her tale to extend this idea from being a personal preference, and a maxim to be followed by ‘every womman that is wys′ (524) to a universal truth. The knight of her tale is set the task of finding:

What thing is it that wommen moost desiren. (905)

When he gives his answer to a supreme court of women, headed by the queen, there is no disagreement at all:

Wommen desiren to have sovereinetee

As wel over hir housbond as hir love,

And for to been in maistrie him above. (1038-40)

In al the court ne was ther wyf, ne maide,

Ne widwe, that contraried that he saide, (1043-4)

The fact that the knight’s life is in the hands of the queen rather than the king is in itself a sign that the tale is a product of The Wife’s imagination. King Arthur has condemned the knight to death, according to the law of the land, and yet in response to the pleas of the queen and other women,

. . . yaf him to the queene, al at hir wille,

To chese wheither she wolde him save or spille (897-8)

Thus even The King of England is subject to his wife.

The Wife uses her tale as a vehicle for her own views, and often she leaves the tale altogether and resumes the self-centred theme and colloquial style of her prologue. She lists all the alternative answers the knight received to his question, the list including everything which, in her prologue, she has shown that she demands from a marriage as well as ‘sovereinetee′.

Somme seyde wommen loven best richesse,

Somme seyde honour, somme seyde jolinesse

Somme riche array, somme seyden lust abedde,

And oftetime to be widwe and wedde. (925-8)
. . .
And somme seyen that we loven best

For to be free, and do right as us lest, (935-6)

Her inclusion of herself with ‘we’, and the unusual inclusion of ‘oftetime to be widwe and wedde’ make it clear that this is The Wife’s own interpolation, beyond the requirements of the tale.

The Wife digresses from her tale after the first half dozen or so lines to air her views on another subject close to her heart, ‘limitours and othere hooly freres’ (866). Her grievances against the church are many. The church’s solemn repressive attitude towards sex, and most other forms of enjoyment, conflict strongly with her robust hedonism. In the prologue she exclaims

Allas, allas, that evere love was sinne! (614)

The church was also responsible for the dissemination of anti-feminist literature and attitudes, and here The Wife, an arch-feminist, is in direct conflict.

For trusteth wel, it is an impossible

That any clerk wol speke good of wives, (688-9)

If we turn to the character of the Loathly Lady of The Wife’s tale, we find some differences between her and The Wife, and some similarities. The main characteristic they have in common is the wish to dominate their husbands. There is also a marked similarity in their tactics for achieving this goal. Both make their husbands suffer, and both use the persuasive techniques of argument. Both also draw upon authorities in support of their arguments; The Wife from The Bible, Ovid, and many others, and The Loathly Lady from Dante and Seneca.

Just as, in the prologue, The Wife puts up the husband’s assumed complaints against her, putting him in the wrong, and knocking his arguments down one by one, so the Loathly Lady puts up the knight’s objections.

Thou art so loothly, and so oold also,

And therto comen of so lough a kinde (1100-1)

She adds the fault of being poor, not even mentioned by the knight, and by pseudo-logic presents the faults as virtues. Both women succeed in gaining the submission of their partners for the same reason - the husbands are so frustrated and exasperated that they give in to get some peace.

The chief difference in the approach of the two wives is that whereas The Wife argues almost entirely on personal grounds, The Loathly Lady argues on the more objective and moralistic grounds of living up to the claim of ‘Nobility’, the true source of which was a much discussed subject in the middle ages. On one level we can assume that Chaucer has introduced this theme for the edification of his audience, but it is also likely that The Wife has included this serious subject in order to comply with The Host’s original request in The General Prologue for,

Tales of best sentence and moost solaas (800).

In her prologue The Wife demonstrates herself to be an intelligent woman, and good at dissembling. At the funeral of her fourth husband, for example, she acts the part of the grieving widow, so she would undoubtedly be able to act out the serious tone necessary for the Loathly Lady’s ‘Nobility’ argument. Putting herself in the role of The Loathly Lady also serves The Wife’s purpose of championing the cause of women, in that to subjugate a knight and prove him to be ignoble would be a greater achievement than the real life subjugation of her first three elderly, feeble, husbands, and it is achieved by a more acceptable means than her childish deceitful attack on Jankin. In this way, and in the final transformation of The Loathly Lady into a beautiful young woman, the tale can be seen as a wish-fulfilment on the part of The Wife.

Thus The Wife’s tale is more than appropriate to the prologue; it is essential that we know the character of The Wife through her prologue before we can fully make sense of the tale.

Simple Animal Theme Party Ideas for Children and Adults

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

Although anyone can visit and enjoy a zoo, farm, or aquatic event, these places generally cater to the animal lover in children. A party with an animal theme can generate a lot of creative ideas. Noah’s Ark is an obvious choice for a child’s animal party. According to the book of Genesis in the Holy Bible, there was an excess of 30,000 animals (2 per each species) aboard the vessel that was deemed the sole survivor of a flood that swept the land. With so many animals in the world, guests to such a party could have a significant number of options for costumes.

An animal party doesn’t have to focus on real animals. An animated animal party theme can prove to be just as fun. The host can choose a particular cartoon show or movie and have the partygoers arrive dressed as their favorite character. For a children’s party, coloring books, giving all the children gifts, and decorating the venue with accessories from cartoon characters are all ways to spice up this type of animal party. A party with an animal theme should have activities that focus on animals. An old game, but definitely a goodie is Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Filling a piñata in the shape of an animal with candy and allowing a child swing at it blind folded is also an old party favorite.

A twist on a party with an animal theme is to have a toga party like the one featured in the famous college movie, Animal House. This film, which depicted a humorous portrayal of fraternity life, was the first of a string of movie hits from college students who published the college magazine, National Lampoon. Of course, employ the zany and over-the-top antics from the movie at your own discretion.

Tips For Preparing For Your Piano Exam

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

Whether you are a new piano player or a full-time professional, exams can be a strenuous and often daunting task. Each exam has its separate challenges. However, if you prepare for your exams correctly, it could mean the difference between passing and failing.

For this example, let us pretend that we are sitting for a Grade Six piano exam. Let the record denote that I have sat and passed a Grade Six exam. Although admittedly I did not pass it well - this was caused by a severe lack of preparation leading up to the exam. I did not put the time or effort into my preparation for this music exam. I can assure you from first hand experience that you need more than 15 minutes practice three to four times a week to effectively prepare for a Grade Six piano exam!

THREE MONTHS BEFORE THE EXAM

At this time you should be doing approximately one hour’s worth of practice a day, five days a week. In your selected pieces you should be able to at least press all of the right notes. This is the time to start developing your pieces from a series of notes to a piano masterpiece. Concentrate on things like expression, dynamics and tempo. Put some feelings and emotion into your pieces.

You should also profusely study all of your theory and scales. Too often scales and theory are neglected at this time and are only revised about a fortnight before the exam. This is a terrible mistake! Remember the more you study now, the more you will retain this information, thus having a better chance of recalling the required knowledge during your exam.

ONE MONTH BEFORE THE EXAM

It is time to up the anti a bit. You should be spending one and a half to two hours practicing a day, six days a week. This is the time to smooth out all of the minor flaws in your pieces of music. Practice things like getting that tricky triplet sounding fluent and making sure you hit the F sharp with your fourth finger rather than the fifth. These issues might seem minor, but it will help you immensely with your exam.

Practice without the sheet music in front of you and see how well you go. During your exam if you rely too heavily on your score, I can guarantee you will stuff up. Learn your music off by heart.
Also, make sure that your exam becomes your number one priority. Do not be distracted by other issues in your life. Do not become distracted by relationship, financial or other issues that might divert your attention from your exam. You will become stressed and worn out, and you will not perform at your potential.

ONE WEEK BEFORE YOUR EXAM

Now is the time to just practice, practice, practice! I would recommend doing between two to three hours per day by now. You should have all of the knowledge required for the exam. It is simply a matter of revising it for your exam.

Whilst we are working and studying hard, we have to remain relaxed. Put it into perspective it is only an exam. There is no need to worry about it 24/7.

DAY BEFORE YOUR EXAM

Most people on the night before an exam practice for 5-6 hours, studying until some ungodly hour in the morning. This is a big no-no! At maximum you should only play through your pieces once. What I like to do is pretend I am actually sitting for the exam. So I would do my scales first, then my pieces in order, and then do some sight reading.

Don’t try to do any last minute revision for your exam. Chances are that you will only put unneeded pressure on yourself and more importantly you will only have a small chance to remember it for your exam. Do not get distracted by other things in your life. Your piano exam is tomorrow - everything else can wait another day.
Relax! It is essential that you get a good night’s sleep. I would recommend that you get 8 to 10 hours solid sleep if you can afford the luxury.

MORNING BEFORE YOUR EXAM

Do not do any work, whether it is piano related or not. Do something fun that doesn’t require a lot of brain power. Watch a movie. Kick a soccer ball. Do whatever that suits you.

Try to eat a healthy breakfast. However, if you suffer from butterflies in the stomach, which I suffer from immensely, don’t try to force anything down. It will only comes straight back up! (Trust me!)

I will say it again, RELAX! Try not to think about your exam. Don’t try to think about your theory, scales, pieces, fingering etc. etc. Don’t think about what you have and haven’t done for your exam. This is only going to get you all frazzled and this will seriously hinder your exam.

30 MINUTES BEFORE THE EXAM

By now you should be at the venue where your exam is being held. Do some ultra-light revision. Look through your music sheets and visualize yourself playing it as you read the notes. Play some ‘air-piano.’ Test yourself with a couple of theory questions.
Do not under any circumstances talk to other people about the exam. Do not ask each other theory questions. Do not discuss your pieces. Do not talk about previous exams or examiners. This is nothing more than an unwanted hindrance. Take a few deep breaths, relax and focus on your exam.

5 MINUTES BEFORE THE EXAM

Close the books for a moment. Take three deep breaths and focus. Think to yourself that this is just like any other piano practice session. Go into the exam with positive thoughts. Whether you have prepared yourself for the exam as I have discussed above or not, it does not matter now. All you can do now is concentrate on the upcoming task of your exam.

DURING THE EXAM

Two things will be happening to you about now. Firstly, you think you are doing well. Great! Ride on this wave of euphoria until the end of the exam. But you must not slack off! You still have a couple of pieces or a couple of scales or some theory to do. You must concentrate until the end of the exam. A lot can happen between now and then.

The second thing that could be happening to you during your piano exam is that you think you are performing badly. Forget about it! It doesn’t matter what has happened. You still have the rest of the exam to impress the examiner. A lot can change between now and the end of the exam.

Another point worth thinking about is just because you think that you have done a bad job, doesn’t mean that the examiner knows you’ve done a bad job. He/She will not pick up every single mistake you make. Just forget what has happened, clear your mind and start again with your next task. Think about what is going to happen, not what has just happened.

AFTER THE EXAM

Congratulations! You have completed your exam! You can now breathe a huge sigh of relief! It’s finally over!

Carefully analyse your exam. What did you do well? What do you do badly? What could you have done to improve? Make notes so you can use them as a reference for future exams.

Be careful not to be too confident with your exam. You might be disappointed when you see your results. Conversely, do not be too negative with your exam and think that you have done badly. More often than not you will get a nice surprise!

RECEIVING YOUR RESULTS

After waiting one to two weeks for your results to come back, you would be naturally excited, or at least inquisitive to see your results. Have you done well and/or better than you expected? Have you done worse than you have thought? Either way, read your examiner’s comments at least three times. See what they liked about your piano examination and what they didn’t. No matter how well you did, you can always improve! Next year’s exams are guaranteed to be harder than this year.

Take the assessor’s comments on board, but also take your own thoughts on board. Was your preparation leading up to the exam as good as it could have been? Nine times out of ten, if you have done badly you generally know why. Think about why you did badly and improve! Learn from your mistakes. Do not get depressed! It is not the end of the world. There is always next year.

I hope this article was helpful for your preparations for your exam. This is what I personally do when preparing for a piano exam. Obviously, if you have your own routine that works, by all means stick to it. However, if you do pick up one piece of advice from this article and apply it successfully, I will consider this article a success. Good Luck for your exams and most importantly, remember you can only do your best.

Important Safety Tip$

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

I was given a list of Do’s and Don’ts of interacting with people who have dementia. I’ve modified this list only slightly to guide you in safely interacting with corporate executives.

Do–Hold their hand. [Most executives want to shake your hand when you enter their office. I have found that it is best to allow them to hold your hand as long as they see fit. Extended handholding is non-verbal communication of endearment.]

Do–Keep your sense of humor. [Humor is critical with high-level corporate executives. Laugh at their cue, even if you aren’t quite sure what you are laughing at. Otherwise, they have a tendency of feeling alienated and can turn hostile. Likewise, if you find yourself laughing and they are not, curtail laughing or like the contrary, they have a tendency of feeling alienated and can turn hostile.]

Do–Keep things simple. [High-level executives are easily overwhelmed, which can generate a feeling of alienation, which can facilitate them turning hostile.]

Do–Give them simple easy tasks or have them focus on entertainment such as television. [It is best to keep high-level executives busy with unimportant activities. Lack of activities has a tendency to make them feel “out-of-the-loop." This is dangerous. They will insert themselves into processes that were working fine without them. If possible, have a TV installed in their office and show them financial programs. They are easily distracted by dollar signs. Warning: dollar signs in red have been proven to generate hostility among high-level corporate executives.]

Do–Remain calm. [These executives have an uncanny ability to sense nervousness, which puts them ill-at-ease, which can facilitate them turning hostile.]

Don’t–Give them choices. [High-level executives are easily overwhelmed, which can generate a feeling of alienation, which can facilitate them turning hostile. Instead, present evidence of a "great opportunity" and allow them come up with a grand idea for you to facilitate. Warning: this is inviting prolonged conversations with them about their grand idea.]

Don′–Get irritated by them asking a question repeatedly. [Refer to keep your sense of humor above.]

Don’t–Tell them what they “should” do. [High-level executives are extremely sensitive to their autonomy and often automatically resist an underling or lesser "instructing" them, which can generate a feeling of alienation, which can facilitate them turning hostile to reinforce their sense of power.]

Don′t–Expect them to do what they say they are going to do. [Expectations are the root of disappointment. If you can curb your expectations, your frequency of disappointment will diminish.]

Don’t–Expect what they tell you to be accurate. [Treating what they say as accurate can only lead to actions based on fallacy and at the end of the day you will look foolish because they will "not recall” telling that "fact" to you.]

Don’t–Expect them to do what they say they will do. [See above. If this isn’t self-apparent by now, stop reading this email and get back to work.]

There were more on the list, which were equally appropriate. The only one that didn′t seem to fit was: Do–Hug them. My experience is that hugs can make them feel ill-at-ease.

5 Most Popular Star Tattoo Ideas

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

The star has numerous meanings depending on who is wearing it. For some it may signify truth and honesty. For others it is a symbol of hope and beauty. Star tattoo ideas vary from person to person. The number of points the star contain is the most meaningful way to personalize it. A particular color of the star is also a very great way to personalize your star tattoo. While the most common types of stars are the 4 pointed and 5 pointed stars, other star tattoo ideas are out there if you look hard enough.

1. Four pointed stars

The typical way to depict a 4 pointed star is a simple plus sign, with special emphasis given to the ends of each point. The 4 pointed star tattoo idea was especially popular in early America, traditionally used by Native American tribes. The simplicity of the 4 pointed star is an ideal choice when used in tribal designs, for instance in a larger chest piece.

2. Five pointed stars

This is without a doubt the most popular of all star tattoo ideas. There are 3 main groups of 5 pointed star designs: the filled star (like you would find on a flag), the simple outline, also known as a pentacle (like you would draw in grade school) and the upside down pentacle (most often used to represent darker symbolism).

3. Filled star

The most commonly used design is the filled star. This star tattoo idea is found mainly in celestial style designs, and is often combined with the sun and the moon. It can also be a great accent to a butterfly or a fairy tattoo.

4. Pentacle

This star tattoo idea is most often used to symbolize witchcraft. It generally represents feminine energy, and the secrets of life. The 5 points represent the five elements: earth, air, water, fire, and spirit. It is also coincidental that the 5 pointed star is only found in organic forms of life, such as flowers and starfish.

5. Reversed Pentacle

While it is known to represent Satanism, the reversed pentacle or pentagram, has also been known to represent the pagan horned god. It may not have any special meaning at all, just an upside down pentacle. It has a growing following of people who are looking for individual star tattoo ideas.

There are many great star tattoo ideas out there if you look hard enough.

Vedic Astrology - More on Saturn and His Aspects

Monday, November 28th, 2005

In Vedic astrology, the three most outer planets of Mars, Jupiter and Saturn each cast a special aspect. The word aspect is actually not very accurate. Like many Western words that try to convey Eastern concepts, the actual word is “drishti” which means “look” or “glance”. For you see, in Vedic thinking, culture and cosmology — the planets are beings of intelligence that have been around since time immemorial. Their movements and energies are not just relevant as “archetypes” - they represent real forces, eternal forces of the universe that transcend our 80 to 100 year lifespan. They connect us to that eternal, cosmic nature that we forget here on the flat Earth in which we live in our day to day lives. Each of these planets are bodies of light that can “see” in different directions. Saturn sees 3 signs in front and 10 signs in front. That is his special look. This look conveys the essence of his nature.

With Saturn occupying Leo he will be “watching″ the sign of Libra and the Sun of Taurus for the next two years, both ruled by Venus. If anyone has planets in Sidereal Libra or Taurus, Saturn will also be watching them. Regardless, wherever those houses fall in your Sidereal / Vedic chart will be under his watchful eye. Saturn aspects create trouble by shattering our illusions around the things he sees. Sometimes this results in losing the thing entirely, other times we may just worry about it or have to put forth immense effort in order to maintain it. This process of worry/effort/potential loss forces us to either deepen our commitment to it, or let it go. This is why we tend to lose things when Saturn starts moving. He tends to push things to a point of seriousness where they either break or we have to work to improve them.

There’s a great story about Saturn aspects, Saturn’s “looks”. Once, Lord Shiva and Parvati after having their first child Lord Ganesh, held a party and invited all of the gods, Demi Gods and Planets to participate. It was a beautiful celebration except one of the planets, Lord Saturn, seem to be kind of depressed and moping in the corner (go figure!) - in fact he would not even look at the beautiful Ganesh. Now, the planets are powerful — but they are not as powerful as the gods, especially the mighty Lord Shiva and Mother Shakti, Parvati.

So the great goddess upon seeing Lord Saturn unmoved by the festivities asked him why he was not participating. Saturn replied “Great Goddess, your child is beautiful and I do not want my looks to ruin that beauty - a glance from me is not always welcome”. “Nonsense!”, declared Parvati, “I insist you look at my child immediately!”. At which time Lord Saturn gaze gently at the beautiful Ganesh. No sooner did Saturn look at Ganesh, then did the beautiful boys head falloff!! One look from Saturn decapitated Ganesh. Lord Shiva went to find a suitable replacement head and was said to have found the head of one of Lord Indra’s elephants - and so Ganesh was given this elephant head.

And so it is said that the Saturn aspects can be more difficult than the Saturn conjunction.

So this means, for the last couple of years Saturn has been looking at the signs of Sidereal Virgo and Aries. Does that speak to anyone?

Put These 5 Films Together and Spell Terrible 5 Times

Monday, November 28th, 2005

Here are five more movies you think would be really better than they are, unfortunately for the films, the scripts, the direction, and the actors, they are not.

Love Letters – 1 Star (Terrible)

Love Letters is a terrible, terrible, terrible film. One of the five worst films every made among those that give a pretense of actually being good while being awful, compared to those films you know are bad and do not disappoint.

This stupid story line has two adults reading letters they sent to each other over their entire life, sitting on tall furniture, gazing down as the past action unfolds.

Love Letters is beyond bad. It butchers a possibly good story line, has poor direction, poor production, poor acting, poor everything. There is not a redeeming quality in this piece of garbage, not even the opening, or credit lines.

The film does not even introduce itself, it takes 5 minutes to realize how bad the film really is after 10 minutes I put Love Letters on fast forward, and it did not get any better in fast forward. Even the dialogue is bad to awful.

The only worse movie I can think of ever seeing is “Pat” (the androgynous character on Saturday Night Live), and that movie I expected to be terrible, and it was. The acting performances in Love Letters were absolutely juvenile, with no depth, no character development, and no delivery worth talking about. These were not 2nd and 3rd rate actors but 8th and 9th rate actors.

What a piece of nothing this turned out to be; I was beyond disappointed. I expected a decent attempt at a relationship movie and could not have been more let down.

Monster-in-Law – 1 Star (Terrible)

Monster-in-Law has a lower class girl (Jennifer Lopez) meeting a rich family doctor (Michael Vartan), and a future mother-in-law (Jane Fonda) who decides to drive away the bride, only to do herself in, discovering that the bride has as much backbone as she does.

This film is strictly entertainment and humor; there really is no story line as you know who is getting together at the end, and it will all work itself out when the comedy skits are over. I have seen Lopez do a better job in better films, such as Maid in Manhattan.

The Fast Runner – 1 Star (Terrible)

The Fast Runner, a foreign film in the Inuktitut language with English subtitles, is about Eskimo life and culture on the tundra in Alaska. I promise you this is not filmmakings′ crowning achievement. It may not even be Eskimo filmmakers′ crowning achievement; if it is, Eskimo filmmaking is in serious trouble.

The Fast Runner, also known by the title Atanarjuat, goes on and on for 172 minutes (call it 3 hours), which is about 1½ hours too long.

Myths and Logic of Shaolin Kung Fu – 1 Star (Terrible)

This film lets you know early on that the best Kung Fu fighting style—Shaolin—comes from the monks in China. The Myths and Logic of Shaolin Kung Fu is a sketchy, historical account of how the monks train and learn to simultaneously become a religious as well as a deadly fighting machine.

These future monks begin before age 10 and never really end a lifelong quest to become a master in this fighting style; dividing their time equally between spiritual development and physical prowess. You will be amazed at the physical skills of these boys before they are 10 years old.

Myra Breckenridge – 1 Star (Terrible)

This is Gore Vidal’s then (1970) controversial film about Myron Breckenridge, a man who goes to Europe for a sex change operation and comes back as Myra Breckenridge (played by Raquel Welch, who I did not like in the movie), a man-hating woman.

It is not clear in the movie if Myra still retains her male parts, not that it is important to the movie, because this film is garbage with no script flow, no message, no acting and an even worse presentation. Myra Breckenridge had a chance to deliver some information and a message about its theme, but failed miserably.

I cannot even begin to imagine what Gore must have been doing when he attempted to write this script. Film efforts like Vidal’s do not increase understanding, but encourage prejudice and ignorance about a controversial topic. This is one bad example of filmmaking, and deserves to die a slow death.
